How do you see the future of the Boeing 747-800 ?
Future of 747? success or end of an era?
I know there is a lot of interest for this new 747 variant.
Firstly, because the 747 is a 'Classic' one in aviation. It has proven itself to the world.
The A380 still has to do that and there are a lot of aviation enthousiasts wha wants to fly the A380 but I don't know about the 'normal' people.
I believe there is a huge mental threshold for many people before they get aboard this giant and fly with it...

true boeing predicts 400 orders of A380 maximum....i see why and i agree, i dont think that airbus is going to sell that many, for example its 100 orders short from making a benefit from this model. Nevertheless BA still has to make its demand on what planes to buy, it has reserved for 10 777 but no sign of the A380
747-8F
I think the 747-8F will be produced for the next 20 years until the 777 replacement. And probably about 100 produced. There is so much infrastructure in the world for this craft - containers, ground handling equipment, spare parts supply chains.
My bet is the 747-8i will sell about 40 units, some to BA, some to Cathay, China Airlines, Jet, and at the very end of it's life, it will be given away to ANA and JAL as the bulk all economy to hurt the A380.
I think the A380 will have a 30-40 year production life, I mean the A300 has had a 35 year run or so, finishing as a low cost freighter.
The A380-900 will change the economics of this bird, and make it more economically attractive against the 747-8i, and should contribute another 100-200 orders in next 20 years - but at a big investment cost to Airbus.
