Cargolux orders 2 new Boeing 747-400F's
Cargolux has placed an order for yet another 2 Boeing B747-400F's. Those 2 planes will be used as interim aircraft, while the company is waiting for the delivery of the first Boeing 747-800 freighters.
The 2 747-400F's will be delivered in 2007 and 2008. Delivery of the 10 747-800 Freighters is anticipated to start in 2009. The airline says: “With the two new [747-400F] aircraft we will bridge this period.”

747 lives on
continuing to outsell the A380 throughout 2005 and into 2006, never would have guessed this.
How about the current market situation for Cargolux, though? I hear 2005 was not that good of a year for this grzt airline. With the ongoing investigations on price fiwing, and LH Cargo which has offered cooperation with DOJ and European commission, there could many clouds in Cargloux's sky. I know for a fact that the volumes for early January have been relatively poor compared to 2005. Which market does Cargolux think about expanding? has time come for a/c replacment? I did not think so.
Re: linkages
Cargolux hasn't been given any contract by Boeing, they're a subcontractor for Evergreen, who has won the contract to operate the 744LCF fleet. They fly the routes to Europe, Evergreen does the Asia routes. The fleet is supposed to be used to transport 787 pieces to the USA from Europe & Asia...fleabyte wrote:I know Cargolux has been given a big contract by Boeing for 787 and future programs, like 747-8
A 747-8 piece won't fit in a 744LCF i believe, so it's purpose will remain 787 transport...
thanks for correction
I thought Evergreen was only converting and operating the LCA, and Cragolux had direct contract to Boeing. Now I also heard they are talking of more than 3 upwards of 5 if 787 production is increased. I will seek the source and post it.
