Flight Trip Report
It is 08:00 local time when I wake up. I get myself dressed and I'm going to eat something. In the kitchen I find my wife Elize who is ready for her flight to Barcelona. She works as a flight attendent at Air Belgium, I've met her during one of my flights, great girl. Anyway, after my dinner I look up my flight assignment on the crew centre for today. I find out that I have to fly to Kos and back to Brussels today. The plane I have to fly is the Airbus A320, OO-SYG. This flight is a Leisure flight. I say my wife goodbye and I take the car to the airport.

At 10:30 local time I arrive at Brussels airport, I go to the crew lounge where I look up the flight details for this flight. The weather is fine but there are some heavy winds expected above Germany. The route for today is EBBR SOPOK UY863 ETENO Y863 RUDUS UL984 BOMBI UM149 DETEV UL603 ZAG UL603 VAL UN131 RODOP UN127 LMO UL618 MES UL609 LARKI LGKO.

I have plenty of time for departure so I make a chat with my crew to discuss this flight. On this flight 160 passengers are booked, the crew consists of two pilots and five cabin crew members.

The departure time for this flight is 12:00 local time, so we are going to board the aircraft to get everything done. When we board the aircraft the catering of Terravia is brought in and the passengers list is checked with the passengers checked in. The copilot is going to the cockpit to do the checks and I going to do a walk arround the aircraft to check if everything is correct.

Image

Our plane, the OO-SYG, is fueled with 21082 lbs of fuel. With that ammount of fuel we have to re-fuel in Kos for the flight back to Brussels. Everythings seems correct on this aircraft so I go back to the cockpit. At the same time the aircraft is ready to board the passengers, the boarding goes well organized and quick, when everyone seems to be on board the flight attendent is counting the number of passengers to check if everyone is on board. Everything is correct and the doors are closed.

We contact the air traffic control that we are ready for departure and we are pushing back in no time. In the cabin the flight safety video is played and the crew is giving free newspapers and an inflight magazine to all passengers. We are starting the engines and check if everything is correct, when we are pushed back we request taxi to runway 25R, which is the active runway at Brussels today.

Image

We are lined up in no time and we recieve our take off clearance immediately. We set full throttle and we are off in no time. The aircraft performs a pretty steep climb and we continue on the SOPOK departure. We are passing some other traffic that is flying to the UK.

As we reach FL330 above the German border, we are experiencing some moderate turbulence and some steep gusts. After some 15 minutes we reach FL370, our cruizing altitude and the turbulence decreases.
After some time the seat belt sign is turned off and the cabin crew is preparing the catering to serve to the passengers.

Image

At 13:00 local time we are over the alps and an amazing scenery is below us. We expect our arrival in Kos at 16:00 local time, that is 30 minutes earlier then the schedule. The (good looking) flight attendent is bringing us some coffee which tastes very good. I make a chat with my copilot and after that I'm going to read the newspaper. In the cabin the inflight entertainment program already started and the passengers can enjoy a nice movie on the cieling televisions.

Image

We leave the alps and the weather is fine, clear skies. The temperature outside the aircraft is -57 degree celcius. Now I have nothing to do; so I take my laptop and I'm going to program some software and website. Some minutes later we recieve a message from the flight attendent that there is a young boy who wants to have a look in the cockpit. Officially this is not allowed, but we give him permission to visit us after the landing.

Some minutes later we tell the passengers something about the current state of the flight, such as the altitude, airspeed, temperature and the expected time of arrival. In the cabin the crew is selling some duty free products which are stated in the inflight magazine.

Some hours later we are looking up the latest weather details for Kos, we expect runway 14 for landing via the LARKI1K arrival. We have still some 15 minutes to go before our top of descend point. We expect to be on the ground in the next 40 minutes, we will arrive 25 minutes earlier then the schedule. We call the cabin crew that we expect the landing in 40 minutes so they know that we are beginning the descend in some minutes.

Image

It's 15:41 local time, time to start our descend into Kos. After 2 hours and 43 minutes of flight we can do something again. We announce to the passengers that we have started our descend into Kos and that we expect the landing at 16:08 local time, the temperature at Kos is 15 degree celcius. We have a beautyfull sight from our windows, with some clouds and Greece islands.

Image

At FL220 we dive into the clouds and when we are out of the clouds we have Kos already insight, we continue our descend into FL100. As we enter FL100 we put on the landing lights and are turning long final for runway 14.

Image

Image

We descend to FL070 and remain on that flightlevel for a moment to fly over some mountains. Afterwards we start a fast descend for the runway, we deploy the spoilers to allow a quicker descend and we set flaps, we also announce the cabin crew for landing.

Image

A quick landing followed, the descend was fast and the landing was soft, we used a soft reverse and some breaks to stop. We backtracked the runway and parked at the gate.

Image

We put on parking brakes, set off the engines and the passengers could disembark. We show the little boy the cockpit and he really likes it, when he has left the aircraft I go out of the cockpit to do a check.

Image

Local time is 16:10, so we are on time nicely. The plane has to fly back to Brussels in 1 hours and 20 minutes, in the cabin the crew is cleaning everything for the new passengers, the plane gets a new ammount of fuel and the plane is loaded with new cargo of the passengers.

To be continueed...

Hope you liked part 1 of the trip report, part 2 will follow soon.
Happy landings.

Nice report Ramon,

some questions though...

Your forgot to set your VOR frequencies.
You performed a visual approach?

But a very nice trip indeed ;)

Kind regards
