Post by Andries »

Today will be a legendary day for Ostend, bacause it will have their first "planned" daily flights since years.

Ryanair will fly from London Stansted to Ostend and then back again.
RYR8574 is scheduled to land at 1420 local.
RYR8575 is scheduled to depart at 1445 local.
Today Arrival is scheduled for 1405, I don't know why, departure is scheduled at 1445local.
Ryanair will start these new flights with Boeing B737-300. These are the ex-Buzz aircraft. Let's hope we get to see al ex-Buzz aircraft before they change to fully painted Ryanair aircraft.
EBOS is now the excellent opportunity to catch these aircraft.

Why is the flight number RYR rather than the usual FR?

The aircraft they sent was the G-BZZG is half Continental colors.
RYR is used instead of FR because the 3-letter codes are used at Ostend and not the 2-letter codes.

Personally, I think that it's very good that Ryanair is flying daily flights from Ostend. Ostend has been the target for years for anti-aviation-enthousiasts and mad people from the neighbourhood (who bought their ground at Xtra low prices ...). Because of those people Ostend Airport got a bad name. They used lies and half thruths, and published these in articels for the newspapers. This way the unknowing public would get the same view on the airport as they did.
Eventually, 2 years ago, a commity was established dto defend the image of the airport : REPLO (REionaal Platform Luchthaven Oostende) http://www.replo.be
With Ryanair comming to Ostend, I think the airport will finally get some popularity in the positive way ... Now that we have daily flights, more people can be employed by the companies on the airport and more people will visit the airport. Fos EBOS this might be a launch to a better life ...

Don't forget that, at the request of Ryanair, the airport has been renamed Ostend-Bruges in order to increase its attractiveness on the British market.
