KLM Boeing 747 damaged by pushback truck
Last Tuesday KLM Boeing 747 PH-BFN has been heavily damaged during an incident with a pushback truck. The plane was being moved, when suddenly the pushback truck hit the fuselage. Cause unknown.
The plane will be out of service for several weeks, while it will be examined and repaired when necessary.

Was this a scheduled flight, or were they just towing it to another gate?? How embarrassing would it be for the pilots to get on the intercom and tell 300+ pax. "ummm, sorry, our plane is now broken and we have to switch..."
"What's this button do?? I don't know, push it and find out................."

I can imagine that if they are towing the plane, and the plane suddenly decides it does not want to move anymore, that the towtruck's front wheels will get off the ground, at which point the rear driving wheels might cause the truck to do a 180 around the nosewheel. Perhaps the person in the 747 suddenly pushed the brakes?
Any idea of the weight of a vehicle as this ??earthman wrote:I can imagine that if they are towing the plane, and the plane suddenly decides it does not want to move anymore, that the towtruck's front wheels will get off the ground, at which point the rear driving wheels might cause the truck to do a 180 around the nosewheel. I agree there can be damage when someone hits the brakes, but still.
The situtaion is very weird. I looked at the picture again and noticed the nose gear is in a 90° angle but the noselifter is in a 180° angle opposed to the 747

747 Damage
Well at least a bit of old fashioned sheetmetal work should fix most of the problem.
Good job it isnt a 787. What then?
