Bombardier is copying Embraer again!
ERJ 135 >> CRJ 100
ERJ 170 >> C-series.
Just kidding, but they do look alike, don't they?

They modified the erj a bit.
The whole story is that embraer designed a plane like the Brasilia, and Bombardier made a simular reagonal jet, but with rear mounted engines. finally Embraer found out that it was better to place them like that. They kind of copied eachother. But the "C" series is very clear, isn't it?
Maybe it's just how technolegy changes, aircraft do to. So two manifactuers making aircraft of the same class, will wind op making simular aircreft.

Bombardier's idea of CRJ is far older then Embraer's...it can be dated back to Bill Lear and his further development on Learfan a.k.a. Challenger...Canadair bought that project with intention to stretch it...ERJ 135 was not even an idea at that time...
On other side BRJ-X was a predecessor of C Series that started to worked on in 1997...so again a little bit before Embraer but you're right that it is logical for the airplane to look that way...

Sorry, but quite the contrary is the fact. There are no aircraft available in this segment. The A318 and the B736 are much more expensive to operate and I do not know one airline which is using them for regional services on a large scale.Knight255 wrote:Smart business move by them. The market is already saturated with that type of aircraft (737-600, A318, ERJ-195). I think it would not have been worth it. Good move Bombardier!!!
The ERJ is one option, though many airlines hesitate to order it.
The problem is, there is no aircraft available in the class of the F70 besides th Embraers.

Indeed, the C series will be more cost efficient on a sector basis however the big problem is of course seat cost which will always be lower than B737 or Airbus a/c. COmpare dto the Embraer family the C series would be more advanced in environmental aspects and fuel consumption.
The program has not been suspended although most of their resources are diverted to other projects, only a core team will continue to work on the C project. Rumours are that Bombardier is looking to tie up with Sukhoi on the RRJ aircraft although in my opinion this type has to few seats (max 95)
Lets hope for a first launch customer to kick the project off !
