SIA To place order for 777's and 787's

This is quite interesting...
I think the A350 might be good enough for SIA to order them over the 787 because it just seems the 787 is too small for SIA.
747-8 - SIA has said before they want the A380 planes for better comfort for passengers and that was why they replaced the 744s with the beast.. 748 isn't that much larger than 744, so i don't really see SIA going back to 747s again, or they won't neccessarily go back to 747s.
It is the 772LR vs A345 which will let Airbus down... Unless SIA won't want this kind of aircraft until 2011 (when the A345E comes), the current A345 is nearly 'inferior' to the 772LR.

This assumes that the A340-600E is actually produced. If Aribus wants to stay in the game, its going to have to come out with something other than derivatives of the A300/310.
While derviative type may work for the 747-8, thats a unique category of aircraft. Boeing will be coming out with a composite replacement for the 737 sometime in 2008. (Boeing has accepted that the 737 has reached the end of the line derviative wise, thought its been an amazing run).
After that, the 777 will see the same treatment (time line is based on how competative it still is, what Airbus does).
And you can bet they havde something on the cocneptual drawing boards for the 400-1000 seat range, and if market justifes it, they will come out with that as well (and I seriously doubt it will look like anything flying right now.

The future A380-900 should seat some 700??
As for 777 replacement, that is still a long time away, maybe by then, a 787 deritative can fully take over all 777s...
Either Airbus spent too much on the A380, or Airbus has something very special in reserve because the A350 is simply a 'response' to the 772 and the 787, not something that will better its rivals despite a 2 year later release...

Perhaps in a multiclass standard layout. Luxury airlines like SIA might chose 500-600 seats.CX wrote:The future A380-900 should seat some 700??
And Airbus 380-800 is supposed to be tested with 853 seats next month, right? Which would mean that the 680 cm stretch Airbus 380-900 might reach the round 1000 of seats...
The external width of 787 is 574 cm. That of 777 is 619 cm. This extra 45 cm means 10 abreast is practical on a 777, but the maximum for 787 looks more like 9 abreast.CX wrote: As for 777 replacement, that is still a long time away, maybe by then, a 787 deritative can fully take over all 777s...
Boeing 777-300 is already 73,9 metres long. Which means that it is competitive with stretched Boeing 787. Whereas Boeing 777-200 could prove easier to replace.
I think there are talks of Y3, which is supposed to replace both 777 and 747. It should be bigger than Y2, which is the 787. It probably is made only after Y1, which is to replace Boeing 737.
Given that Boeing thinks it worthwhile to upgrade the 747 in 2009, before replacing it with Y3, there might well be new passenger models of 777, especially with 777-300 capacity (Perhaps not bigger, because that is taken care of by 747-800).
what is diameter of A330 and A350?
and is it confirmed possible for Boeing to make a 777-400ER as a 747 replacement? Tailstrike issue no doubt.
but since the announcement about the 747-800 - that seems like a non issue.
