2 years Air Belgium…
2 years a long time, flew by so fast. After our first cautious steps in January under the name of Skytravel we originally aimed for a virtual tour operator chartering planes of existing va’s. But since this formula wasn’t successful because of lack of interest, we decided to start our own flights. We began with some leisure flights and a small fleet of airbus planes which later grew on with more divisions for scheduled flights and regional flights and even a few foreign divisions. After a while we could clearly see that it was unmanageable and that the way things where run wasn’t popular amongst potential pilots.
So in October 2004 we sold of our foreign divisions and reorganised the Belgian division, giving it the name Air Belgium to show we where the new virtual Belgian flag carrier. Things went better and better and we started growing again, meanwhile introducing a new site and revising our colours. Finally in June 2005 we took another look at things and rearranged the va bit by bit and introducing brand new colours given a new and fresh imagi while further smoothening the entire operation.
Now we reached the point of being a 2 year old va and after having flown through major storms we are finally cruising in clear skies, heading for a bright future. We transformed from a young inexperienced va to a smoothly operating top class va, giving the standard at which other va’s should match.
Of course running a va during 2 years takes a lot of patience and effort and it wouldn’t have been possible without all the help people have given me in the past and present to make air Belgium what it is today.
I would like to express special thanks to all pilots for flying for air Belgium, Réne Bergmann for helping in the design process of our new corporate ID and Michiel Herman for helping setting it all up 2 years ago and helping in the first year of operations. I would also like to thank everyone else that ever did something for Air Belgium, members and non-members and last but not least everyone of the management team.
To celebrate our 2 years operations in january we are planning a whole series of activities and actions, the first one beeing introducing a special birthday logo which has already been applied to an A321 and B744 with other planes to follow:

And the real treat, an Air Belgium A320 wearing the colors that the original Air Belgium wore during the eighties and ninieties on their Boeing fleet:

Air Belgium in the old days:

Thank you for taking the effort to read this all, feel free to leave any comments/birthday wishes etc.
