As for the Airbus problem, their delay on A380 really hurt them.
I'm worried Boeing will have the same problems with the 787. That would be truly devastating.

Yea... they have been very inconsiderate about their statements about Boeing... I personally liked thembits44 wrote:Airbus has certainly committed some serious Faux Pas's over the last few months, and in the process have alienated many present and possible future customers.
Insulting customers, being less than truthful, failing miserably to communicate with its customers, are just a few of the many.
In the eyes of the customers Airbus at times has been less than forthcoming, and have gone over the line when they made statements about Boeing. This kind of behaviour certainly does not gain them any favour with customers, and has lowered their stature and trust level.
They have a long uphill battle to regain the respect of customers.
Not to worry. The "Consortium" will throw them a few more Billion Euros just like they did for the development of the A380 and, again, for the A350.CX wrote:Their soonest chance to regain this is with the A380... Hopefully SIA will be happy with it and that the plane meets its standards, or else what can they do? spend another lump of money to modify the beast?
The article made a mistake. Even without the order from last week, Cathay's fleet will expand to over 100 anyway. The article left out the four second-hand B747-400's coming in as BCF's or refitted passenger aircrafts, which will push the aircraft total over 100 by 2007.Also, i don't think the new order is to fully replace the A340 because local news has said that CX's fleet, after the order, will expand and increase to ---(forgot number, but over 100) and includes the A340s... and that article said that the order was for 'new services/new destinations', not replacing old aircrafts..
Yes, of course. The 777-300 doesn't have the range to fly long-haul. I can say that the Hong Kong-Toronto route is flown by A340-300, but Cathay would like a bigger plane for that, as well as non-stop instead of a technical stop in Anchorage. That's a daily flight that fit perfectly for B773ER. I can imagine they would like the 773ER on HK-Vancouver-New York route as well.As for CX, the 773ER will replace the 3 leased A346s, but the leased A343s, do you really need a 773-->ER<-- to replace them with?
