I experienced the same thing ! Well almost the same
When I was going back home from my annual holiday to Thailand I arrived at Zurich with a SWISS A343. I had to continue my journey onto Brussels with an Avro of Swiss.

All crew and pax were on board and we were ready to get the pushback when all power suddenly failed ! All lights, airco, apu etc... failed and it lasted about 1 hour to get it fixed. During that hour the power went up and down several times which made it a very scary thing !

Even i'm used to fly, this experience sure made me pray that the power would remain 'online' during the flight !

Luckily everything went ok and we landed safely at Brussels.

But this is something i'll never forget !

Cheers

It might depend on the type off DU's (Display Unit) installed. I fly on a brand new A330 with new and larger displays (LCD iso CRT). After roughly 10 days of continuous operation (which is really the case within that airline) all the DU's perform a self test and go blank for 40 sec. This happened on an Atlantic crossing around 40W. Since then to avoid that disturbing self test, at the end of the flight, instead of dimming all the DU's, we switch them off.
But after reading the article, the events on the BA flight are of another origin...
Happy landings.

I wonder what idiot came up with that. It's really not that hard to only allow the self test when, say, the doors are open. Are you sure the plane isn't running Microsoft Windows?

I bet that the software is subcontracted in Bombay.

I think you mean Bangalore, not Bombay. That's what they call the Indian Silicon Valley.

I hear that due to some cultural thing they will never say that what you want them to do is impossible. So you end up with either something that doesn't do wat you wanted, or endless delays. (Not that you would get something better from someone else, but at least they might have told you that what you want is impossible.)

yes , Bangalore, sorry.
I know what you mean with that specific attitude. "You are my best friend and we can make everything for you, very special price for you"
You end up with a suite that doesn't fit, which looks awfull and outdated and you will have paid more than you thought.
Translate this into aviation: the entire system makes a restart in the middle of the flight.
Okay, we can live with that.

Yes, we can live with restarts in the middle of the flight, as long as it doesn't restart while landing or taking off.
