SNBA in Airliner World
SNBA are in Airliner World's latest issue, out now. The magazine features an article on the airline's A330 operations as a follow up to the article which was in the magazine a couple of months ago.
Sabena and Sobelair - gone but never forgotten.

As we're talking about Airliner World, I have a question about the release date. In case you're subscribed to the magazine, and you live in Belgium, when do you get it by mail?
Because at the moment I buy it at my local newspaper stand, but I get e.g. the December issue when the January issue is released (in England) :s

I have a subscription and my issue arrives a few days after the release date mentioned in the previous month's article. I used to buy it but I prefer my subscription and it is also cheaper.fostro wrote:As we're talking about Airliner World, I have a question about the release date. in the article mentioned in this month's issue I read that 50% of the passangers deplaned at DKR before heading towards BJL, only 1 hour further away. In DKR, nobody bords the plane because SNBA does not have the authority to fly fare-paying pax between DKR and BJL.
Can sombody tell me if that is profitable?
why doesn't SNBA have the authority for fare-paying pax?
grtz,
Simon

In the past Sabena had the right to carry passengers between some African destinations. And this was often the safest way to fly between those destinations. However, as soon as African countries started their own airlines, they resented this foreign competition, and the SN rights were abolished.
I doubt that no passengers board the plane at DKR: there should at least be the pax from DKR to BRU!

For the reason that it is still a bilateral world.SN_Bigbirdy wrote:why doesn't SNBA have the authority for fare-paying pax?
In order for SN to have traffic rights from DKR to BJL the Belgium Government would have had to have negotiated 5th freedom rights from both Senegal and Gambia. Of course either government could give SN 'extra-bilateral' authority, but this is not likely without some sort of quid-pro-quo!
This is the way of the World, even where open sky agreements are in effect - to the extent that unlimited 5ths are granted in open sky agreements, but approval of the third country is also needed.

Thank you very very much, Bowlie, for this to the point answer

so, if SNBA realy wants to have those rights they have to, e.g. invest in some local projects?Bowlie wrote: ... but this is not likely without some sort of quid-pro-quo!...

Hmmm.... "...in 2004 @ the Ivory Coast, SNBA had to call the UN to evacuate the crew who had stuck in their hotel after a hotel blew up a bridge linking the hotel to the airport.."Harry-Spotter wrote: How I wish I was a member of an SN cabin crew :cry2:
It seems to me that, if you are a crewmember of SNBA flying on this route, you have to have very strong nerves
