Logic would say that it is indeed the end of AA codesharing with LX, especially the destinations where the UA will be putting its code on.

Codesharing between Swiss and United Airlines

Post by liebensd »

Like mentioned in the news topic: https://www.aviation24.be/article10497.html
Swiss and UA will become codeshare partners, will this be the end of the AA and Swiss relationship?

Bah Humbug,

All code-sharing should be banned. Lying to your customers, that's all it is. What's wrong with an interline connection (other than the CRS shows those last)?

That would surprise me. AA will not allow it. "You are either with us or against us"!

Not so. Codesharing is often an easy way for an airline to reach new markets where the volume of traffic would not allow them to fly alone. However, I agree with you that the standards off service should be the same, which is seldom the case.

Thus, SN Brussels Airlines should clearly mention that on flights codeshared with Iberia, the customers will not receive free meals and drinks if the flight is operated by Iberia. That is not yet the case.

It is certainly possible on certain flights, there are many airlines code sharing to another alliance on certain flights - OS and AF on VIE - CDG for example. Still both are members of large alliances.

But generally speaking, AA and LX will reduce their cooperation.

As Swiss is bought by Lufthansa, it will have to listen to her new parent, isn't it? (cfr. Star Alliance)

I agree with sn26567 who said that AA wouldn't keep the codeshare with Swiss when they have a codeshare with the competitor (UA). Though, AA focuses on the homemarket so I think it's no big deal for them losing a European partner.

But in the future when Swiss becomes a Star Alliance member, the surplus value of UA-LX will be higher than AA-LX - seen from the Alliance point of view.

Absolutely agree on this, still certain code share agreements could remain in force, though it is not very likely that it will happen for the AA - stuff.

So, even if a LX-UA connection is better for me, the customer, I'll get a phony LX-LX(AA) connection. It's still an interline connection but because of this milarky I lose out. Bah humbug

Why so?

If you want an LX-UA connection you will get it. SA connections will sooner or later be availableon all flights. But still it is not impossible to code share with airlines outside your alliance if there is no problem with one of the 'closer' alliance partners.

I agree on that. But AA will probably stop the codeshare since both AA and UA will more or less serve the same market out of ZRH.
