I recognise a F27 and a Convair 550, is that correct?
Does somebody else recognise some types of planes?
I leave it up to the luchtzak members to guess who those 2 lovely children are 8)

The "F.27" is in fact a Handley Page Herald and the Convair is most likely a CV-340 or CV440 being a piston not a turbo-prop. The other Delta Air transport a/c looks like a DC-6.

Antwerp is also military an important airport. Despite its short runway and limited facilities , it is still a back up for emergencies.
Can somebody confirm about the landing/departure of USA Starlifters (!) during military logistical excercises end of eighties? Those excersis were held annualy in the Antwerp harbour to train off/on loading of heavy equipment . The Starlifters had to bring in the USA reservists.
I can hardly imagine a c-141 starlifter ever having taken off at Antwerp. The c-141 is a strategic transport airplane with a takeoff distance over a 50ft obstacle of 1770m (5800ft) at MTOW ( Source: The International Directory of Military Aircraft by Gerard Frawley and Jim Thorn, 1996/97). The runway at deurne currently has a lenght of 1510m (source: http://www.antwerpairport.be/nl/Piloten ... neings.htm ) and if I am not mistaken, it used to be shorter in the past. So, if these Starlifters where loaded with strategically military loads, I don't think they where able to take off at Antwerp. Just my guess though .

During Reforger (return of forces to Germany) exercises largest aircraft was the Hercules (USA-Canada) or Transall (Germany). No Starlifters ever recorded.
Largest aircraft to date visting EBAW was an emty B757-200 of Air Belgium back in 1995. Other large aircraft include a VIP MD80, pax B727's & B737s and cargo Britannia's.
Indeed another empty B757 of EAT came on May 09 2002 to participate in the celebrities of 75 year Royal Antwerp Aviation Club. The 757s are the largest aircraft that visited EBAW.
Back in 2003 an empty An12 came on the festivities of Aviapartner.
Sad I always have to use the word "empty", everyone knows why.
But in 2003 an IL18 did collect a small load of books.
