Emirates persuades Boeing to extend the B787

Post by AirbusA350 »

Flight International has reported that EK has drawn more attention to Boeing, concerning the stretch of the B787 and creation of the 787-10X. If this preference would be finalized Airbus would be headed for a major disadvantage and the A350 program would lose out on the EK order.

Well, why don't Emirates just go and order A350 if they are unhappy with the size of the 787?? I mean EK has a fleet with a lot of Airbus' already, no reason why they prefer Boeing over Airbus... It would be funny if Emirates pushed Boeing to stretch the 787, and then simply go and order 100 A350s 8) ...

And how Emirates is saying that the A350 will just kill the 772/772ER, does it mean that they'll replace those when the A350 comes?

I hope Emirates will eventually place the large order for A350s rather than 787s... Or at least half of each..

Most likely Boeing wouldn't go forward with a streached 787 right now unless Emirates signs on as a launch customer.

If you look part of the way down on a airliner.net thread on the same subject, there is a table with calculations a member of the board did that suggest that the streached 787 would have significant fuel advantages over the 350.
http://www.airliners.net/discussions/ge ... n/2386287/

Specific things to note are that the streached 787-10x in his table would be able to seat 307 compared to 300 for the 350-900, however the weight difference between the two planes without any fuel loaded into them would be a mere .05%. That suggests a noticeable fuel efficiency edge for the 787-10x.

Its distinctly possible that since Emirates wants as fuel efficient a product as possible, they want Boeing to move ahead with the design for that reason.

If Emirates doesn't go for the Airbus, the boss of Airbus will be happy because he will be able to deliver planes (at a higher price)...cfr. previous article saying he had a capacity problem to deliver planes.

Judging from what Boeing is saying about its B777's, there is a very poor possibility for the 787-10X to be developed at all. B777's are very economical and creditable airplanes with a deep future. When the demand for the B777's ends Boeing will certainly not hesitate to roll out the more advanced B787-10X. The replacement would be logical therefore Boeing keeps the ace hidden until the right moment comes.

EK is doing a normal purchasing move to display its grandeur and meaning to Airbus. You can interpret it as a little retaliation for the rescheduling of the A380 deliveries. Also Airbus may choose to make a very tempting offer which will be very hard to refuse and I' m certain that it will. Everything will be staged at the Dubai Airshow soon.

I don't know, Airbus seems very confident with A350 sales and whether they'll make a 'irrestitable deal' to EK, i'm not sure... But of course EK is such a huge airline that they should make a good offer to and win the order... they are crazy, maybe ordering 200 or something at once! And they said they'll order some A380-900 too?? just amazing~~

Boeing said that they thought the 200-250 passenger class 'is the future market ' instead of beasts like A380, if they stretch the 787 it will just prove themselves wrong before... On the other hand, if Boeing does approve a 787-10X, it is very difficult or too costly for Airbus can come up with a stretch for the A350 right? Or a shrink to respond to the 787-3.

That would be the stupidest move ever (in my opinion). If you're ordering a specific aircraft to do a certain job at an airline, and you're economical about fleet types, you should never order two different planes to one job when one plane could do it all. Am I the only one that sees it this way???? :?

T'is a good point. Perhaps Boeing is waiting to see how successful the first derivatives of the 787 are before the design of the -10??

agree 8)
because you also have to train technicians for 2 different types of aircrafts...
well, let's hope EK just get the A359!

I hope EK orders the A359, purely because it has so few orders. It would be nice to see some more.

They just want something to compete with A350 so that they can negotiate prices with airbus. Let's say Boeing offered B787-10 which may make Airbus who desperately need a big order to boost A350 program to give even bigger discount to them. Always nice to have 2 or more suppliers right? This is what I think.
