BIAC looks at China and Far East

Today in the newspaper Het Nieuwsblad: BIAC and 'Toerisme Vlaanderen' signed yesterday an agreement to attract a lot of Chinese tourists to Brussels and Flanders.

BIAC has the knowledge to negotiate with carriers, and they have talks with a number of Aziatic carriers. They don't give names during the negotiations.

Geert Bourgeois will lead promotions, fares, etc to make from Belgium a very attractive country for travelling.

Year after year hundreds of Chinese people are travelling all over the world and take flights at AMS, FRA and LHR. BIAC And Toerisme Vlaanderen wants also to take advantage of it.

I hope it will succeed.

Would be very good step forward for the economy , and especially in the touristic sector for Belgium. Nice for BIAC (and the spotters

) , nice for Brussels and all other places they might visit , and I hope they enjoy their staying in Belgium.

A previous official mission revealed the intention to reinstall regular air services between BRU and Japan. Any update / news / rumour in the meantime ? :wave:

It would indeed be a great impuls for the belgian aviation industry if thousands of chinese tourists would flock to brussels and use BRU as a base to fly to other european cities. Let's welcome this opportunity with open arms!!!

This evening on VRT news 19H, Mister Karl De Gucht is visiting Japan, Tokio. He said one of the things they are going to discuss is a new direct route from Brussels to Tokio.

Hi folks!

I thought the route to Japan (IF it would ever come) , was due to started up by ANA All Nippon Airways (probably with the 744 , since ANA 777's are used for domestic flights in and around Japan.)

The China route was as already mentioned planned to set up by Hainan airways. And soon Etihad airways will add it's own long-haul route Abu Dhabi-Brussels-Toronto-Brussels-Abu Dhabi with the A330-200 , and let's hope Jet airways still wants to start it's Mumbai-Brussels-Newark-Brussels-Mumbai route with the A340-300.

I hope it will be again a nice 744 that will bring the Belgian Delegation to China on the mission. Like the Lufthansa 747 brought Prins Filip to China a wile ago.

It's indeed ANA who will fly, if it comes that day, that new route.

This are the first talks, we will know more with a second round of discussions when a delegation of BIAC and maybe SNBA joined the table.

The carrier for China will be Hainan Airlines. A year ago they wants to choose between Brussels or Zurich. None of those two airports received the airline. Also for this route SNBA was interesting in a codeshare.

We will see but it's remarkable that our politici and also now Toerisme Vlaanderen with cooperation of BIAC are looking to open new routes.

From 2007 one big Japanese carrier will begin flights to Brussels, from Tokyo or Osaka. This was said by mister Karl De Gucht during his trip in Japan. There is a market for both countries and its growing every month.

BIAC is asking, with power, to start earlier then 2007.

BIAC is also talking with some Chinese carriers, one of them is Hainan Airlines.

BRU will also be linked to JNB again with a very smooth connection through DXB with Etihad.
--> too bad SN's A330's will not serve this destination

Do you have more info for that route to JNB? JNB came up about a year ago, but the airline who will fly that route was unknown.

If ANA would start direct flights to BRU before 2008 is gonna be with B767. IF, because the new ordered planes were delayed due to strikes at Boeing. This delay could also delay a possible new flight to Europe.
2008 anyhow makes the opening of new destinations much easier for ANA as from that year on they will receive the B787 (50 in total)

No TWA, I think you are very wrong about the JNB connection with Etihad. As I previously have said , I have called the Etihad office in Brussels to ask about the Bangkok and JNB connection. Both have a smooth connection in 1 way (the return I think) but the go flight has a very long transit time of 9 hours, the next day.
Second mistake is that the connection is through dreadful Abu Dhabi airport i nstead of Dubai. Certainly not a good place to stay for 9 hours, after my 1 hour transit in August I had already enough ("it looks like a third world refugee camp")
By the way, if you would have to stay in Dubai airport for 9 hours , travelling in economy, I would dislike this as well. It costs +- 130 US dollar to have a room in the airport hotel - which rooms are nice by the way.(2003)
Suggesting to TWA: can you re check and if i am wrong because the hours have changed, please reply asap.
