Does the Government of India own both Air India and Indian Airlines? I thought Indian Airlines, unlike Air India, did not require Government approval to purchase planes.

Cheers,

Walter.

From reading the article one would assume that is the case, however the ways of the Indian Government are at times baffling and a bit of a mystery.

Perhaps "Advisor" could fill us in on the internal workings of India's Aircarriers.

India is a mystical country, so nothing is straightforward.

It has actually been explained a while ago: Air India is the state-owned international carrier, while Indian Airlines is the state-owned domestic carrier.

The mystery here is why these two are split, would it not be more efficient to have a single company, and to have only one aircraft supplier?

Earthmans considerations are in the pipeline of the Civil Aviation Ministry.

They could merge in the long run, but as he says INDIA IS A MYSTICAL COUNTRY, let us wait and watch

This could be an interesting read for ppl pursuing this topic.
