Thai Air buys 3 new A340-600

Post by regi »

Thair Air just ordered 3 new A340-600 planes.
Some thoughts: didn't the PM of Thailand connect the european ban on thai shrimps with the order of planes from Airbus?
3 new A340's, nice order and enough to silence the Airbus haters and B777 lovers.

Thai has NOT ordered three additional A340-600s. Their total orders still stand at 6 -600s and 4 -500s.

THAI received the two A340-600 aircraft in June and August 2005 respectively and will receive another three aircraft of this model from Airbus by the end of the year 2005, which will complete the order for five aircraft under the A340-600 aircraft type.

remains of a previous order looks like

Why is it not realistic? Take-off or landing, taken at the right moment, why not.. With a digital camera, taking a whole sequence of pictures, and picking out the best one is easy.

I was just saying that because it looks so perfect.

At no point I was implying it wasn't real but it really looks too perfect to be true :D

Thai Airways International announced it plans to sell 4 Douglas MD11 in early 2006. These aircraft are used on routes from Bangkok to Australia, Milan and Zurich and are expected to be replaced with Airbus A340-600s.
They will also reduce US service as it is not happy with the performance on these routes. On Dec 1st it will reduce the frequency on its Bangkok to New York route from 6 to 4 flights a week while cutting Bangkok to Los Angeles from 4 to 3 flights a week however that flight will go nonstop instead of via Japan. Thai will also revise its Bangkok-Auckland-Sydney route on the same date into a daily Bangkok-Auckland and daily Bangkok-Sydney service.

Well here for example: http://www.channelnewsasia.com/stories/ ... 61/1/.html

You might tell me that everyone suffers at the moment, but look at their balance sheet on their website and it's unfortunately not that good either! :(

Cheers

I understand what you mean but that doesn't mean they are in financial problems. My opinion is, an airline can make losses but that doesn't mean it cannot pay it's expenses. The thing is, Thai is currently reforming it's strategy to make sure the balance get's atleast even again.

For me, an airline in financial problems is like Delta, Alitalia, etc..

Uhm... Since when is an MD11 antique? They are immensly popular airplanes with Finnair, KLM, Lufthansa (Cargo), UPS, FedEx, ...
DC9's for example as an antique, now that's debatable, but any NWfan would argue against you...

I mean even if you have financial problems, you can't halt your plans to get efficient planes to generate more revenue than old planes...

Absolutely right, especially cargo airlines love it. LH Cargo even looked into the MD-11s of AZ, but decided not to buy them. I am pretty sure they will at least have a look at them. And of course there is Finnair, AFAIK the only carrier expanding its MD-11 pax fleet.
