TAP Portugal to buy 11 Airbus A-330

Post by HorsePower »

TAP Portugal finally choosen the A330 instead of the A350 or the B787. TAP Portugal thinks of buying 11 A330 aircraft for an ammount of ~€1,32 billiards (catalog price).

Well the A330 probably can be delivered earlier than the A350 or B787...

Price seems a bit high! Airbus booked orders in 2004 for 370 aircraft at $34.4 billion. Paying not much less for 11 aircraft seems daft.

Sure. Also, the french AF is in talk to bough back 2 of their A340s, in order to convert them into freighters (TLRA*).

TLRA: Transport à Long Rayon d'Action

Austrian press release
With just 257 seats, the Airbus A340-200 is a relatively small
"We are looking for a bigger aircraft"
... , cost-intensive four-jet long-range aircraft with low revenue potential.
twin-jet aircraft types offer clear cost benefits over those with four engines in flight operations
"We are looking for a twin engined fuel efficient aircraft"

Conclusion: OS might orders 2 B777-200ERs, with 2 more on option.

Admins: could it be possible to split the topic in 2 parts, second one orientated on OS fleetplan, Thx.

Back to the main subject of this topic: according to the Portuguese press http://dn.sapo.pt/2005/09/16/negocios/t ... _2006.html TAP will receive the first A330 already in 2006. From 2015 the airline will start replacing the A330 by the A350.

Considering the first delivery in 2006 they had to go with the A330
instead of A350/B787. Anyway, good thing for Airbus although not
yet officially announced !

The fact they are going to use the A330 as an interim solution is really interresting. Air Europa got such a deal when they ordered their A350s (A340-200 ex-Air Bourbon leased from Airbus + 2 A330-200 leased).

Perhaps we will see such a deal for EI?
