any factual news on the cause of crash??
engine failure? ?
to get to the LCC side-discussion : I flew Air Philippines (not to be confused with PAL Philippines Airlines) a few years ago on an aged 732. On full-throttle departure the left engine failed twice on the airstrip, after which we taxied away, captain checking separate engines full blast, on OK he decided to go back to runway instead of going to terminal area for an inspection. I don't want to imagine what would have happened with an engine failure just seconds after take-off.
in other words.... airlines in regions like these (and probably here too, and not just LCC but also regular ones) should stick to procedures and be concerned about passenger safety, rather than believe in the fate of the Gods.
At Palembang airport Merpati just took off right thru a massive thunderstorm that delayed my flight (coming in) for 5 minutes after which the captain just couldnt stand it and took the dive thru the huge storm.(in my case with Garuda)
