Turkish Airlines to join Star Alliance? How about Oneworld?

I have read a post on Airliners.net about Turkish Airlines is in talks with Star Alliance officials about joining the biggest alliance in the world.

However, Lufthansa, one of the leaders of Star Alliance, is an major competitor of Turkish Airlines.

Besides, Turkish Airlines is also in talks with Skyteam.

However, oneworld was not mentioned.

I was wondering that why Turkish Airlines isn't thinking of joining oneworld. American Airlines is its partner on codesharing flights and frequent flyer programme, MILES&Miles.

As an oneworld fan, I strongly recommend Turkish Airlines to join oneworld!!

Well I being a oneworld supporter, think it would be even better if Lufthansa went to Oneworld, and turkish into Star!

. It's not going to happen though,. A lot of airlines are all talk. Look at Swiss and oneworld! Im still pissed about that! They said they were going to go all the way, and then they stopped.

I think Turkish would be a good fit for any alliance

Remember that Turkish was part of the Qualiflyer alliance around Swissair, together with Sabena, TAP, Austrian, Air Liberté, AOM, .... Most of these airlines (or their successors) are part of Star now, so it seems a logical move.

fftopic: This is maybe a silly question but why don't SNBA joined a group like One World or Star Alliance? Is this airline to small, or is the marked in Belgium to small.

Spanair are in Star Alliance (as a full member) and I would say they are smaller than SNBA

Not Air Sahara, they seem pretty well connected with BA and AA. In the long term probably oneworld for them.

So I would say Jet, Air India or Indian for Star. Dont Jet have connections with KLM? Could that lead them towards Skyteam are do they also co operate with Star Alliance airlines

The only alliance which would make sense is oneworld. Since skyteam has surrounded us with its Amsterdam and Paris hubs and Star has us covered through its German Lufthansa hubs.

Only Oneworld is missing a player in "central old europe".

I wonder if we will ever be in the situation that every alliance will have a partner in every country. Seems like the future right now...

Still I do not like the implications - that will simply mean smaller airports will loose their hub function totally and the larger more congested ones will be overworked. Even more so when members are situated very close to each other like KLM & AF, LH & OS,...

interesting ... once a really good airline, now they are more a "basket case" . I'm afraid Star Alliance let them in mostly because of their SK/LH ties. (In fact, their European network is nothing but much of an SK / LH feeder carrier from Spain)
