SN Brussels: NCL-Salzburg and other scheduled charters

Post by Humberside »

According to this:

http://www.newcastle-airport.co.uk/flig ... irport=SZG

SNBA fly NCL-Salzburg on a scheduled basis. I thought all flights on this route where charters? There is no mention of this flight on www.flysn.com Can anyone confirm SNBA have no scheduled flights on this route?

Thanks

Humberside,

flightnumbers starting with SN 1XXX are always charter operations.

The OAG mentions other so-called scheduled charters available to the regular passenger (thus with business and economy classes. E.g. from BRU September:
SN 1017 to AJA and BIA on Sat, AR8
SN 1081 to AJA on Sat, AR1
SN 1083 to AJA on Sat, AR1
SN 1085 to BIA on Sat, AR1
SN 1051 to DOL (Deauville!) on Fri 23 Sep, AR8
SN 1059 to DBV on Fri, AR1
SN 1097 to OLB on Sat, AR1
SN 1001 to SXB on Mon 5 and 26 and Thu 8 and 29, AR1
SN 1003 to SXB on Mon 5 Sep and Thu 8 and 29, AR1
SN 1005 to SXB on Mon 5 and 26 and Thu 8, AR1

Any other ones, Bart?

@André: my parents flew SN to AJA about a month ago, and they clearly didn't get the standard catering (and I would be surprised if there was a C-class as well).

Flights to AJA/BIA/... cannot be booked at Flysn.com, and those flights are mainly operated for tour operators (like the SN flight to AJA was operated for TUB).

indeed there is no C-class on those flights, full eco and always chartered by TUI or TC.

In the OAG I have also spotted SN 1*** flights from Lille, Lyon and Nantes to Ajaccio, and from Geneva to Figari and Olbia.

Can anyone explain me the logic behind this?

Sn flies Charter flights from/to Ajaccio apparently! Why does it do that? Less busy during the summer? But if it flies regularly from these destinations isn't expensive to park a plane for the wholesummer period in a place different to the home base?

I do understand why SN flies from Bru to holliday destinations. But not from Lyon or Newcastle! Also by the end of the summer they will have to fly an empty plane back to brussels... A bit silly no?

Vinnie-winnie,

SN charter operations are usually operated in combination with scheduled flights. I will give you an example:

Saturday morning: Brussels - Lyon scheduled flight

After the scheduled flight the aircraft changes into charter-mode: Lyon - Ajaccio - Lille - Ajaccio - Lyon on Saturday

The aircraft returns to Brussels on Sunday for a scheduled flight.

AFAIK there will not be any empty flights back to Brussels.

Oh cool!

Thanks for the explanation this makes much more sense! Quit like the idea of using a plane as much as possible! Any idea about the profitability of these flights? Also who provides the crew for these flights?

Thanks again!

Vincent

The flight operates BRU-BRS-SZG-NCL-SZG-BRS-BRU. It's a "scheduled charter flight" operated by RJ100 a/c.
In the winter SN Brussels also operates NCL-TLS flights.

In the US they are when they operate as a scheduled flight but your money is not paid to the airline until the flight has hapenned so you can get it back if the flight doesnt happen. TransMerridian and Hooters opertae in this way

FWIW, Air Transat also fly "scheduled charter" flights from Canada to Europe.
