spotting at brussels

Post by kotszakje »

hi all,

with this beautiful weather we're having now, I'm planning to go spotting tomorrow friday. As I don't have any car I'll have to go by public transport.
I decided to help luchtzak, as there is nothing yet written about going to brussels' spotting places by public transport under 'Luchtzak's Brussels Spotting Tips'.

My question is: has anyone any experience with public transport around the airport? If so, to which spotting places?
Thanks for any help!

I'll be trying different possibilities. I'll then send luchtzak the most practical option, so other spotters can benefit of this as well. I suppose I am not the only one out there who hasn't got a car.

cheers,
fred

Hi Fred,

Public transport around the airport is virtually impossible.

3 things you can do:
x take the train to the airport, and make that you have an appointment with a friend to pick you up to drive to the spots

x take the train to ... I forgot, damn. Well, it's the station close located to the 25L. From there a 10 minuts walk, and you are at the 25L spottersplace

x if you want to go to the Brucargo area (07L), you can take a bus from the airport (the shuttle bus)

Regards
Frederic

I wend several times to Sabena Technics by train. You can travel to one of the stations of Brussels (Noord, Centraal or Zuid ), from there is a train each 15 min to the airport. In the airport, you walk to the exit where the cabs and busses are. From there, you walk parallel next to the road to the airport. I think you need to walk +/- 15 min to spotting point D. https://www.aviation24.be/modules.php?name ... cle&sid=50

Nederlands

thanks for the replies.

I am planning to go to 25L (first time ever) and the easiest way i think is by train to kortenberg (I suppose this is the one Sabena690 meant), and then I'll have to walk a little bit.

let see how it goes.

cheers,
fred

The walk from Kortenberg station is not too bad (10 minutes - abit uphill!)

If you are coming from Brussel/Diegem or anywhere near the Haachtsesteenweg then you can get the "BM" Lijn bus which passes Brucargo goes along Haachtsesteenweg then through Steenokkerzeel to Kortenberg passing under the threshold of 25R as well as 25L.

If you can get to Kraainem Metro you can take the 352 Lijn bus (direction Leuven) which passes through Kortenberg and will drop you at the Belgian Rail station then as before walk up the hill.

BTW if the weather is as today the landings will not be 25L

Hope this will be of help to someone

You can also take Nossegem, then you walk (also uphill) direction Refugee Center, also a nice spotting place... :)

This is also shorter to the spotting place B, at 02/7R, only I don't have any idea about walking time...

hi all,

just got back from 25L and I must say, it's not so difficult to go there by train. it took me all in all about 1h10 to get there from gent (very smooth connection in brussel noord)

In brussel-noord/bruxelles-nord, take the 'stop'-train to leuven (1 each hour, leaves at 44 minutes past the hour). after 5 stops I think (Schaerbeek, Haren Zuid, Diegem, Zaventem, Nossegem) get off at Kortenberg, turn left onto the main road (mechelsesteenweg) and follow this road until you reach a roundabout. continue straight ahead and you'll reach a water-tower and the 'Jumbo'-cafe on your right. from there 25L is only a few meters away. from there it's quite easy to go to the refugee center (long walk along 25L).

Indeed Meerkat, landings were not on 25L, but all traffic going south took off on this runway (07R). flights going north and the american flights used 02 for take off.

had a great time, only a bit windy. I am certainly going back, because now I've got the taste of it. and I'll try to find other ways to go there and to other spotting places by public transport.

cheers,
fred

Hi all,

this morning I did Bologna-Brussels with a 02 landing at BRU. FLight from Bologna over the Alps, Germany, Luxemburg then to BUB (vor Brussels) at 7.000 feet. After that we did a great sight-seeing tour around Brussels (Royal Palace, Heizel, Ring, Vilvorde-bridge, etc... I even saw Mechelen, Affligem, Aalst, Denderleeuw, Gent etc... . The E40 was also at it's place as well as the Brussels Ring. Then finally you make a left-turn over the Forrest-wood and the other side of the Ring to land at Brussels!

My 10 minutes of sightseeing! I love going to work!

ciao,

luchtzak
