Finger Zuid
They don't know yet what to do with the satelite. However, it will "survive" for the time being.
Who knows, one day this building might become a terminal for charter ops only (in many other airports, there is a dedicated charter terminal).
Lets wait ans see...

At the moment, the terminals are too big for the traffic.
My suggestion: refurbishing of the satellite, but let do it like the other official contructions in Belgium ....SLOWLY
I think we should not speculate.
Dedicate the satellite for US flights will generate many costs for:
- adapting the access to the building
- additional security
- additional staff
- adapting all the gates to wide-body aircraft
- etc, etc.
Generating costs is only possible if there is a real return on investment for BIAC, the airlines and handling agents. This is not the case today.
I think that the satellite will remain as it is until there is a real need for additional capacity, which is not the case today.

And don't forget the shops. Actually for the same turnover, they should double the workersFlyA310 wrote:I think we should not speculate.

Another idea:Atlantis wrote:They can refurbish it and at some part they can make a little museum with the Belgian nostalgia of airlines during the pasts.
I hope they find the money to make it modern. Maybe they can used it in the future. I think there are 6 or 7 gates so place enough.
Transformation in a business center. (safety problems?)

For the moment they are only building a new car parking at the front of the airport...and just making some renewings at rwy 02/20Atlantis wrote:@Sab319
Correct, DHL asked some parking place because they loose some for the HST-station at Building 2 of DHL.
BTW, from my office I saw this week some hugh cranes at the airport. Are they beginning with the construction of this station?
as long as it doesn't really cost money to keep it, it is interesting as a back up to have it.
But I can imagine it would require a lot of time and money and effort to reorganise all the modern security systems - not just the machines but the personell as well. Good for emergencies, e.g. a crash (to collect relatives away from the press) or arrival of evacuation planes (instead of Melsbroek)
At first hand you might think: good for Easy Jet! But the total cost is probably too high.
