The satellite will survive, it's only Finger South that will disappear.

They don't know yet what to do with the satelite. However, it will "survive" for the time being.
Who knows, one day this building might become a terminal for charter ops only (in many other airports, there is a dedicated charter terminal).
Lets wait ans see...

I'm sure one or other regional or national minister has made a "National Monument" of it, so it cannot be removed or demolished.

But if they do that, they can close the half of pier B !
At the moment, the terminals are too big for the traffic.
My suggestion: refurbishing of the satellite, but let do it like the other official contructions in Belgium ....SLOWLY

For your info: only the "old terminal" has been proclaimed as "national monument", not the satellite.

It is indeed a fact that there is more than enough capacity available with the A and the B-pier for the time being...

Maybe they can refurbish the satellite and dedicate it to the US flights?

I think we should not speculate.

Dedicate the satellite for US flights will generate many costs for:
- adapting the access to the building
- additional security
- additional staff
- adapting all the gates to wide-body aircraft
- etc, etc.

Generating costs is only possible if there is a real return on investment for BIAC, the airlines and handling agents. This is not the case today.

I think that the satellite will remain as it is until there is a real need for additional capacity, which is not the case today.

And don't forget the shops. Actually for the same turnover, they should double the workers

You are right.
Again, its all about ROI so lets stay with both feet on the ground...the satellite will not be used for pax / flt ops in the near future.

They can refurbish it and at some part they can make a little museum with the Belgian nostalgia of airlines during the pasts.

I hope they find the money to make it modern. Maybe they can used it in the future. I think there are 6 or 7 gates so place enough.

Another idea:
Transformation in a business center. (safety problems?)

Maybe Brubiac can tell us what the possible destination is of the satellite.

And what about the free space of the South Pier? Platform for de-icing, parking place for hugh aircraft?

@Sab319

Correct, DHL asked some parking place because they loose some for the HST-station at Building 2 of DHL.

BTW, from my office I saw this week some hugh cranes at the airport. Are they beginning with the construction of this station?

as long as it doesn't really cost money to keep it, it is interesting as a back up to have it.
But I can imagine it would require a lot of time and money and effort to reorganise all the modern security systems - not just the machines but the personell as well. Good for emergencies, e.g. a crash (to collect relatives away from the press) or arrival of evacuation planes (instead of Melsbroek)
At first hand you might think: good for Easy Jet! But the total cost is probably too high.
