MAN spotting on foot

Post by spotty »

Hallo, I´m going to make a spotting trip to manchester soon :P Watching different websites, I´ve got some informations, but not sa much as I`d like to get. Especially I like taking pictures of rotating or landing planes. I will stay at Moat House Hotel near the RWY, but I `ll have to get to the various foto positions by foot unfortunately :( . Hope you can help me!? Spotty

Goodevening,
Spotty,
If you stay at the Moat House, I am almost sure you will have to take a cab from the airport to the hotel as the hotel is on the other side of the airport. Not a bad side because close to the Moat House you have an access to a place quit near to the runways :

Moreover, this place is the best in the morning and this till around 3 pm.
After 3 pm a trip to the Aviation Viewing Park by foot, might be long but maybe the hotel has a bus which can transport you tot the airport because besides Aviation Viewing Park, you have the top of the carpark to enjoy spotting.

Hallo Karl, yes, the airport area seems too large for arriving the foto points by foot :(, so I should confine myself to the south side. I think the Moat House Hotel is a pretty good option for staying near the RWY. Do you know anything about the main landing direction (of course it depends on wind direction) ? Kindly regards Jörg

Goodafternoon,
Jörg,
Not sure about the landing directions but I assume that if winds are westerly, the right runway is used for landings which means that at the spot near Moat House, they use those runways to taxi and to accelerate.
Otherwise you have a tavern on the other side (near the terminal) where you are close to the landing runway. If winds are easterly, I don't have any idea.
You might send a question to the Manchester-spotters.
Good luck !
Karl

:D I´ve been to MAN for the last three days and it was really great. The best place for spotting I`ve ever been, with the exception of AMS maybe. If anyone needs more informations don`t hesitate to contact me! Regards Jörg
