Did they ever thought of passenger-parachutes?
Hello,
This question may sound unreal but it could be helpful in some cases I think. If something occurs at relatively low altitude or when weather conditions aren't to bad, shoud it be possible to "bail out" as fighter pilots do? They would need another system so you don't need to blow off the "roof" offcours.
Has Boeing, Airbus or any other constructor ever thought about this idea? Oxygen masks and life vests can save lives, why not parachutes?
greets

Parachutes are not allowed mainly because of the man in this story

You also have a problem with opening a door during flight. Current airliners all have pressurised cabins, keeping the door pushed against the fuselage. If you wanted to jump, you first need to get the door open in flight (an allmost impossible job).

There are quite a few Hollywood films where people are opening B747 doors, blowing holes in airplanes, stand near holes without being sucked out etc. Who ever said Hollywood films represent reality?moons wrote:The bomb and parachute reminds me of the movie "Drop Zone". Some crazy people blow the door out and escape by parachute. That combination can cause a lot of harm indeed.

Captain, drop me here please!
What is the use of a parachute, dear moons, when the plane crashes. One has to jump before the plane crashes. As shown in the Holywood flicks.moons wrote:These old DC-3's and so on, wasn't here any parachute onboard in case the plane would crash in the "rimboe"; the jungle. Or do I have this idea from Hollywood too?
The pilot would have to stabilise the aircraft at reduced speed and only doors at the rear would be fit for jumps.
But like russian astronauts come back to mother earth couldn't huge parachutes, slow down and land the aircraft?
Pilot would dump fuel and open cargo bays, passengers would remain strapped in their seat, waiting for impact.... better than crashing.
By that all the pilot would be able to direct the aircraft to a best suited landing... as parachutist seem able to do.
I'm sure our Bart, could draw an artist impression of let say a B757 dangling on half a dozens huge parachutes.
