Rumour: MK Airlines grounded in RSA

Post by website-info »

Hi All,

Just had a sms from a contact in South Africa stating that MK has been grounded. At the time of writing he did not know if it was total, just in South Africa or even just one aircraft !!!

Anyone know any more info ?

I'll post if I get more

Indeed strange that over two days are less flights.

I have three thoughts:

 Could it be that there is something wrong with the airplanes? I know that they had some problems a while ago. :?:

 I don't know who the customers are for MK Airlines, but I can not imaging that due to holiday they had no flights or less flights.

 This is wild thinking, so forget it if you want: could it be that the company itselfs is in trouble :?: I doubt it because I have no information about possible bad financial situation.

So I can only say, hope that they fly back very soon, maybe as from today.

Very strange story indeed...

Are they positioning many of their planes to the UK ? Filton ?

I just hope this is nothing serious..

Please note that the summer period are the calmest weeks for cargo traffic.

I don't know what was going on in South Africa, but MK airlines is operating two flights this afternoon to Ostend, so I don't think above mentioned message is in any relation with the Ostend base.

The 2 flights for these afternoon are MKA 122 inbound from Benghazi and MKA747 inbound from East Midlands.

Also the DC8's 9G-MKN and 9G-MKK are on the tarmac in EBOS.

finally an answer from MK:

they had some 'traffic rights' issues in South Africa (most probably for domestic african routes) but the aircraft is now flying again,

as for the lack of flights - their answer is 'there is no lack of flights' !!

Indeed good news for EBOS. I'm curious if they offer new destinations from EBOS.

Today again no flights, I guess there is little cargo for the moment so a couple of the flights are cancelled we shall see what the future brings :!:
