Future of American Airlines in BRU?

Post by lumumba »

hi everybody.
Now that swiss will leave A.A for U.A what can we expect for BRU.
They are speaking about BOS-BRU with a 757 with winglets and a USA-BRU-India flight.
What do you expect?
Hasta la victoria siempre.

If we have to believe the rumours, the first additional flight from AA to Brussels should be from Miami.

And according to this thread, the AA flights between the US and India will be non-stop.

There are many rumours indeed. And as André said, the first likely new flight will probably be MIA-BRU.

I don't know if there is enough traffic for a BOS-BRU in addition to the JFK-BRU and ORD-BRU...

And for the India flight, well now there is ORD-DEL, but they might maybe still open a USA-BOM flight which mght make a stop in Europe. So let's hope for a USA-BRU-BOM flight ;) But now I have to stop dreaming...

For the moment nothing mentioned on the site of AA of a new route from Miami to Brussels. It's indeed a rumour, but I think that there is a marked for. So, I think you have to wait a lot of months if the first flight is a fact.
I think also that a charter flight with an other company is more surely.

There was indeed a tought of AA to have a flight to India via Brussels. But, they do it now directly. So, not good for Bru.

An other thing. Sometimes you can read that AA will made from Bru a little hub. But how can you make a hub with - for the moment - two flights a day and in the future maybe three.
Whan I was in Heathrow, I saw at the same moment 7 big aircrafts of AA. That's what I call a hub.

bru-mia: AA, status: request filed, expected Q4 2005/Q1 or Q2 2006.
AA filed the request for the BRU-MIA, which means that they were/are thinking of opening this route. But nothing is decided yet so it can still go the other way as well.

7 planes --> Big hub
3 planes --> small hub ;)
But don't forget that AA is heaily codesharing with SN on African routes.

I read somewhere on A.net that AA will order winglets for it's 757 fleet. That way they could be used better for transatlantic operations. So maybe AA could use them for MIA-BRU or BOS-BRU even if the market is not that big...

The discussion on airliners.net is on the fact that the B757 is doing very well on transatlantic routes to UK and that based on this AA is evaluating different new destination using the same - therefore the winglets = less fuel and longer distance. One of the priorities then could be BOS-BRU. Don't forget that at the time of SN, this was one of the few routes that was (more or less) profitable ... So it is not so stupid. This does not exclude the connection to Miami.

Let's hope a B757 from Boston and a B767 from Miami, then we would really have a 'small' hub.

AA is planning US-BOM flight in 2006 which is one stop(EU) service. This could become US-BRU-BOM, not sure though!

You're right. Thanks to the B757 we might have better chances to get a new service. I'm still waiting for the first B777 though ;) maybe CO ?

Hopefully we can see those birds at Zaventem :kvole:

I think that the the loadfactors for AA at Zaventem are well. So, maybe this is a reason to start new destinations to Brussels.

Also for this......................fingers crossed

When AA first flew to BRU, it WAS a hub:
ORD-BRU-DUS
JFK-BRU-MUC
which means four destinations from BRU with two planes.

And now it is still a hub, with all the connecting flights from BRU codeshared with SN, BA and LX

errr... I guess an airport needs to have a little more routes than 4 or even 10 to qualify as a hub. Otherwise AA would have hundreds of hubs and we all know this is not true. It would be great for BRU if AA expanded their operations though, and is SN would join oneworld, than we can maybe start considering BRU as a AA and oneworld hub, but for now it´s just another city which happens to be a codeshare partner to AA. Just like Alaska Airlines, Japan Airlines, Hawaiian Airlines etc.

Lets first hope SN expands to a somewhat bigger airline, so it is able to stay competitive in the african market.

Could it be possible that AA used bigger aircraft on the route JFK-Bru and ORD-BRU when Jet Airways is a new player on the route JFK-BRU?
It would be nice to see a 777 to JFK, a 757 to MIA, a 767 to ORD and a 767 to BOS although I didn't hear anything for that plan.

Is the premium traffic large enough to justify the 777 on a ORD/JFK-BRU? I doubt it.

Even CDG doesn't get AA's 777s from JFK/ORD.

If AA will change its 767 for a 777 on JFK, then I guess I just found my favourite way to the USA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Isn't BRU-MIA (4035 nm) a bit too long for a 757 (max 3900 nm):?:
Winglets will save fuel and extend range by approx 200 miles and westbount it takes a bit longer. Moreover a bit of ETOPS margin should apply. http://www.boeing.com/commercial/757fam ... nical.html

I hope that the plans are true
( a reason more to spot @ BRU )
It would be great if they would fly BRU with not only the 767 ...
