U.S. seeking long runway (>2500m) in Okinawa

The US government has requested the Japanese government to secure a runway more than 2,500 meters long for large military transport aircraft.
There is need to secure a runway of more than 2,500 meters in Okinawa Prefecture in addition to the two existing 3,700-meter runways at the Kadena Air Base in the prefecture.

Locating a 2,500mt runway on Okinawa's already overcrowded (on level terrain) geography, will be an interesting challenge.
