That is correct:V-Bird wrote:because BONN ( close to cologne ) was the headquaters of the goverment in west-germany?
"At the forefront (of setting up the new LH) were two men, the Federal Transport Minister Hans-Christoph Seebohm and his expert special advisor on air transport issues, Hans Bongers. To be near the provisional capital city of Bonn, the latter set up an office in Cologne; this is why Lufthansa's headquarters was later established there."

The HMNLS Karel Doorman (R81)
The patrol aircraft was the S-2 Trackers
The jet aircraft was the Hawker Seahawk
During a 1968 refit Karel Doorman was damaged by an engine room fire. It was decided that the repairs would be too expensive and the ship would instead be retired. Accordingly she was placed in reserve pending disposal. On 15 October 1968 she was sold to Argentina and was subsequently refitted. Karel Doorman was renamed Veinticinco De Mayo and recommissioned 12 March 1969, prior to the 22 August 1969 completion of her overhaul.
Veinticinco De Mayo's age began to tell, and by the early 1980's she was in poor condition. After 1985 she did not move under her own power and was little but a hulk. A series of plans to rebuild and re-engine the ship produced no result, and she was formally stricken in 1997, and scrapped in 1999.

When SABENA made the very last flight with Boeing 747-300 ( OO-SGC ) called "Farewell to Belgium" over Belgium on October 31, 1999 the flight had to stay in a holding pattern for about 15 minutes over the Ardennes.
Reason: an emergency at BRU.
I want to know what had happened in BRU at the time that the 747 wanted to head back to BRU.

When once you have tasted flight, you will forever walk the earth with your eyes turned skyward, for there you have been, and there you will always long to return."
