Bom-Lhr route via Amd

Actually it is an opportunity cost that AI is banking on with 9W. Since 9W has not got permission to fly to the US, AI is planning to WET LEASE, 9W's aircraft from BOM-LHR sector and back till the time its own aircraft/s arrive

But how will this work, 9W has not yet got permission to fly to EWR, but it will fly(plane + crew) as AI...weird.

In that case let 9W fly why simply hold on to it and accuse of terrorist links ?

Wetlease my friend. 8)

And letting 9W fly to EWR solely depends on the US Authorities  And until then if the airline is utilising its resources by wetleasing, then why not.

And preliminary meetings have taken place between officials of AI and 9W and talks are going on.

Now we all know what does one mean by TALKS ARE GOING ON  They have already decided and we should wait for some time for them to spell it out to the rest of the world.

if you read this thread

https://www.aviation24.be/article9266.html

you'll find it's for Mumbai to LHR services. You can't just wet lease any aircraft to fly to the USA, you still need to use an approved airline (and as yet I believe 9W does not have that approval)

But isn't Jet Airways A340 leased from SAA?

Wouldn't it be cheaper to lease it directly from a company? Unless if Jet Airways is making a good price as it cannot use it already. And that makes a good crew training by the way.

:offtopic:

But if Jet is sub leasing its aircrafts why is it going in for another new one

50th Aircraft of 9W

The airline's fleet is now composed of 39 Boeing 737s including the 400, 700, 800 and 900 series as well as 3 Airbus A340-300Es and 8 ATR72-500s.

AI floated tenders for lease of T7 category planes, but got no response, so they decided to go for the 9W's plane, beside its for one month only, till our GOI officials finish their "phoren" visit. I doubt any foreign leasing company will lease a plane to AI for just one month, moreover it was a win-win situation for both 9w and AI.

The press link does not work its asking for loginid/pwd. More over the new plane (Boeing 737-800 ) is in an all economy configuration of 175 seats which will be deployed on high density routes(mostly domestic), and I am sure 9w will not fly a total sardine class plane outside India. They need Business class to pull people initially. Once established they may use all coach class configured planes. Mind you 9W is not just focusing on intl travel but also has to keep up with local competition esp for Deccan, S2 and Kingfisher.

Meantime Jet plans to have a 90 plane fleet by 2009.
