How did AIExp get permission to fly international sector when the Indian law does not allow any new startup to fly outside unless it has been in operation for last 5 yrs with a minimum fleet of 5 aircrafts!

You are right on the law aspect, BlrBird

But if you remember, AirIndia Express is the LCC division of AirIndia and not a new startup

RESIGNATION OF PILOTS FORCES AIR-INDIA EXPRESS TO CURTAIL FLIGHTS FROM MUMBAI AND DELHI TO THE GULF

Flights departing from Thiruvananthapuram, Kochi and Kozhikode in Kerala will remain unchanged, the following flights from Mumbai and Delhi have been cancelled until July 30, 2005 :

AirIndia has appealed to the hon courts of India for a stricter ANTI POACHING LAW and has appealed to the DGCA to cancel the licences of the errant pilots who held the airline to ransom.

MUMBAI: In an unprecedented move to checkmate poaching, Air-India has written to the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) asking it to cancel the Commercial Pilot's Licence (CPL) of each of the 12 pilots who have left Air-India Express to join other airlines.

In the last few days, AI Express, AI's low-cost subsidiary, has been at the receiving end of aggressive poaching with 12 pilots having left the airline in quick succession. Temporarily handicapped, the airline was forced to announce the suspension of three low-cost flights from Mumbai and Delhi to the Gulf region until July 30. The pilots had not given the airline the six months notice deemed mandatory, as per the anti-poaching agreement mutually agreed to and signed by airlines in April this year.

Sources in AI said that the airline, in a letter written to the DGCA two days ago, had drawn a reference to the stringent clause under Section 39A (2) of the Indian Aircraft Act, 1937. The section deals with disqualification from holding or obtaining a licence in view of the public interest. "Under that law, the central government may debar a person, temporarily or permanently, from holding a licence if his\her actions are found to affect the public interest," said an AI source.

Flights from the UAE to Mumbai have again been affected by severe flooding with Mumbai airport remaining closed for much of yesterday.

Indian Airlines flights from Sharjah were the most affected with four flights delayed. Air India and Air India Express also reported extensive delays.
