On Kanaal Z, the only remark that ultimately matters was this one: "the new livery is 7 to 10% cheaper than the old one".

You are litterally looking at a cost saving, in other words.

A croatian day of laughing and nobody has been this comin' there ??

It's just a logo , a livery who cares anyway,routes and fares...thats bizz....

If they really want to cut costs then don’t do a new livery at all...people are complaining of not getting their refund, staff are complaining of lower salary and then they decide to do this? And literally copy paste of two extremely similar logos that you can actually get sued for in real life. Honestly who thought this through? No one

Hi all,

To be honest, I also like it. I also think that it has not been a big cost, especially taking into account 1) they have to repaint all planes every x years anyway and 2) they will use less paint now, so cheaper ... Regarding the fact that it looks like another logo: well any new logo will resembles another one I am afraid + the Polish newspaper might sell some more copies now :D .

Many are over-reacting and use arguments that in imho are not real arguments that stand ...

Curious though what will be the other things SN is referring to ("more to come"). I am also looking forward to be on an A320neo flight in 2023.

Back to some space-related work now ;)

Regards,
Danny

Do you think that nobody was doing previously any check on copyrights by territorry and product classes? Most likely the Polish newspaper does not have their logo copyrights extended to other classes than print products.
Similarly to wild rebranding ideas on the name that might be to close to another one already existing in the local market and most likely alredy having protected branding rights.

Conti764 wrote: 18 Nov 2021, 17:36 I don't understand why there should be any Belgian flag or colors on an SN plane? Other legacy carriers don't have it... KL has no Dutch flag, nor the 'national' coloŕ (orange), neither has LH, OS,... Air Belgium does, but is has the name 'Belgium' in it, as does AF, IB, AZ,... The 'Belgian identity' is PR blah blah, but a bit unlucky chosen given the result...

The livery itself. First of all, eurowhite. Love it! Mostly white planes have a classy touch to them imho...
The dots need to grow on me but I kinda like the new livery. A better solution imho would have been to at least paint Belgian landmarks (Atomium, Manneken Pis,...) or famous Belgians (Adolphe Sax, Father Damian,...) and name their planes after them, too...

But the fond they use is hideous!
The more interesting question would be .. what is the Belgian identity and is this a topic were perceptions are different in the two major ethnic groups?

Let's look around (and i am doing it as a non Belgian):

- Air France has the name of the country and the colors of the flag incorported - most likely all French would run mad if the company would change its colors; similarly the other Belgian Airline where the French region is heavily represented by investments, HQ etc. has the name of Belgium and the Belgian flag colors in the design
- KLM has neither the name of the country nor the colors of the flag in its branding; all Dutch and international passangers have no problem on recognising it as a Dutch brand ; i would not say that Brussels is a the "flemish" airline in Belgium, but it's branding follows somewhow a similar logic - it is in essence about a brand and not about a national flag

Can it be that they way both tehnic groups perceives being "Belgian" is different, despite all local patriotic approaches, likes/non-likes of the Lufthana group, nationalization dreams, socialist stupid claims on branding cost and all the other comments not related to the brand itsefl?

If you look at this from this side, and yesterday also during the presentation, it is visible that the Belgian flag is up side down, red/yellow/black. I know why, bcs it works like a mirror, but in fact it is absolutely not correct

a few thoughts around this rebranding:

First of all, there were some pretty solid engagements made by the CEO concerning the future.... after the whole EW-circus, I find this rather positive, and we should all be happy about that, no ?
Now, of course, it seems only words, let's see the facts that will follow: A320neo, XLR for North America, what about the A330's ?; A220's ?? etc ...

Concerning the rebranding, I think that the error was made a long time ago, and it is about the name... Brussels is so Europe-related, that I am not sure that it brings a positive feeling to non-belgian citizens . In 2021, I fear the contrary .... Brussels is too connoted as the EU capital and it's bureaucracy etc ...
while Belgian, funny enough, has a more positive value abroad, than internally with all our local lunacies....

I would have decided to also change the name, and copy paste, Belgian, next to Swiss, and to Austrian ...
but I fear that this choice was to expensive ??? maybe in a couple of years

We have already Air Belgium, which gives you not much choice then to change another company also in such a name

on the contrary, I think Belgian, tout court, without the "airlines" at the end would be totally OK .... and not in competition with Air Belgium

and it would save them some blue paint, not having to paint the word "airlines" :D

This is ABSOLUTELY correct! The way Air Belgium paints it is absolutely not correct. A flag will always be painted as flying in the wind with the nose being the flag pole so the left side has black-yellow-red while the right side has red-yellow-black. It's hideous that KF didn't know that before painting their planes.

Now regarding this livery, it's growing on me... I wasn't a big fan yesterday but the more I see it the better it gets.

You are ABSOLUTELY not correct, it’s not absolute science, but nothing more than your personal interpretation!
There are two camps, they both have their arguments, just respect the other one’s and stick to your own conviction, but please don’t state the other ones are plain wrong!

Sorry, have to agree with Bralo20...
It is a tradition carried over from the sea. When navy's decided to paint the national flag on the ships rather then (always) flying them, the consensus was agreed to do it this way, for the reasoning Bralo gave.
Though not mandatory, aviation adopted it as well.
But also other branches did. Look for instance at the Fiats 500 with the optional Italian flag on the fenders...

Rebranding costs millions.

Repainting the tail in different colors costs more because you need to rebalance the rudder and that alone is a non-negligible cost.
Then think about new uniforms, new headrest covers, new safety cards, new catering disposables, new signs all over the place from Bhouse to hangars and check-in area, manhours spent changing websites, stickers, etc...

SN management think that they can shrug off the bad customer service of the past 18 months with a new identity.
I haven't received a refund for cancelled flights, haven't been contacted at all.
With Ryanair I was spontaneously sent a voucher without having asked for it, and then they even extended it without asking for it.

My advice to SN staff, especially the operational staff, is to look around for better jobs.
Many places are hiring with much better pay, less stress, more glam, job security and more appreciation from customers and leadership.
Now is not a good time to be in this business. Soaring oil prices, low and unstable demand, deep losses at virtually every airline, fraud by OEM's, etc...
"I love aviation", it's a bit passé, those of us who moved on from SN are doing much better both financially and in terms of general happiness, than those who stayed and the job market now is offering so many opportunities that it would be a waste not to take them.
Most employers will match your seniority without a second thought.

Newsflash... you don't need to balance fully powered flight controls...
