ATR turboprop caught fire at MUC on 25/08/2008

Post by LX-LGX »

While everybody was still talking about Spanair and Itak air, there was an emergency evacuation at Münich, after a tire or the landing gear caught fire:

It's very rare to see an aircraft evacuation caught on tape! First you see the passengers run away from the plane, after the fire has been extuingished they run back to the aircraft! Most probably to look for relatives or luggage?

Hm, at the start of the tape the tire / landing gear seems to be already on fire, the plane had stopped and the first pax are evacuating and still it takes over one minute from than on for the fire engine to arrive, so it seems the total time from the emergency call from the pilot until arrival must have been close to two minutes or so?!
Is this a "normal" time at such a big airport as MUC ? I had hoped they would be quicker. And I would indeed have expected someone (a member of the cabin crew?) to direct pax after evacuation further away from the plane and tell them not to return so fast?!

It all seems unexpected so I think a 2 minutes time for the firebrigade to arrive is normal. :?

According to a report today in German newspaper "BILD" (tabloid  ) today, the pilot was ordered by the tower to stop while the plane was already on the runway for take off "in order to allow another plane to land" :?: :?: 8-) During the following emergency stop the breaks obviously overheated, tower saw the smoke first and informed fire brigade. Just another example of poor knowledge by journalists :?:
