BRU 17-18/02/2022 - 55 African Union members meet with EU members

Apologies for this early heads up, but otherwise I may forget about it. On the upside, it gives you some time to keep your agenda free for this should you wish to do so.

On 17-18 February 2022 the European Union - African Union (AU) Summit takes place.

Previous summit was in the Côte d'Ivoire (2017) so this one should take place here in Brussels.

The AU consists of 55 member states.

This is announced as a leaders meeting - i.e. heads of state/government level - although I had a look at the picture of 2017 and found a mixture of foreign ministers and prime ministers/presidents so I'm not entirely sure how will this play out aviation-wise but at least some of them will hopefully fly in with a government plane, which would make for some great spotting opportunities.

As far as my informations go, the summit is said to be preceded by the African-European Trade meeting, which will be held in a "hybrid" format, due to the pandemic. Whether the summit might also be a "hybrid" one - thus less African visitors flying in - remains to be seen.

Note that the memberships of Guinea, Mali and Sudan in the African Union are currently suspended, so that guests from these countries are less likely to be seen in Brussels.
