On June 24, 2020, King Philip will pay a visit to the Kleine-Brogel airbase. The King will be informed of the current state of Defence and the fight against the coronavirus in an operational unit. The Belgian Air Force is reducing the flying hours of the 4 NH90-TTH helicopters, as they are called 'unreliable" (they break down all the time) and they cost more to operate than an F-16... Expected is that they will be sold in a couple of years.
The 4 NFH variants (the grey ones) will be kept (for on the frigates and SAR missions above the north sea).
The Air Force wants to replace them (together with the old Agusta's) by 15 H145M or H160M (not official yet)

Next monday,29th of June, will see the last formation flight of the Alouette III of the BAF.
So these useful and cheap birds will soon be going for retirement,it seems;
No replacement? So the Belgian navy will have to depend on the reliability of the 4 NH-90 only for all their missions....
LAYING OF THE FIRST STONE OF THE NEW HANGAR FOR THE AIRBUS A400M
On Monday, August 24, Defence Minister Philippe Goffin will lay the foundation stone for the future maintenance hangar for the A400M transport aircraft in Melsbroek.
The building offers space for the simultaneous maintenance of three aircraft. It also includes all the necessary warehouses and workshops, which will be equipped with the latest and best possible techniques. The building is therefore adapted to the larger dimensions of the aircraft and is suitable for new types of maintenance activities.
The construction of the project has been entrusted to NV Democo as a design, construction, financing and maintenance project for a period of 30 years and will be technically and administratively monitored by the General Directorate of Material Resources (DG MR). In the 15th Wing of the Air Component, eight A400M Atlas military transport aircraft will eventually be stationed in a binational Belgian-Luxembourg unit.
