Re: Which future fighter jet for Belgian Defence?
Denis Ducarme (MR) will probably become Minister of Defence .. He is far less a fan of Lockheed Martin than Decrem ... Heard him a while ago on RTBF, most probably correctly claimed economic compensations (which if you like it or not are an important issue when you pay up to EUR 5 Bn) were disappoin...

Re: News from THY
I tool the Luxembourg-Istanboul flight last week for the first time ... Very good flight, brand new B737-800, comfort even better thanks to only 20 people on the plane .. The flight is now daily, but at check-inn they explained it will most pobably go back to 4X weekly, due to "not really being...

Re: Kleine Brogel Air Force days
As a kid, I had been in the 80'ies and early 90'ies a regular visitor to airshows in Belgium (Koksijde, KB, Chievres, Beauvechain, you name it). Then my interests turned more to civil aviation .. Last weekend, to combine a shopping trip in Maasmechelen and to escape the boredome of Luxemboring, we m...

Re: Dutch Railways promises guaranteed on-time arrival at AM
I use the NS intensively every month and the NMBS as well, and there is no way to compare, NS wins hands down: modern material with more and more free and reliable wifi on the trains, less delays and delays are always very well communicated, both in the stations as on the train, friendly staff, clea...

Re: Lufthansa pilots announce strike
Lufthansa is about the most strike-prone European airline of the last years, add to that strikes of German air traffic controllers and security staff at Frankfurt, flying "German" has often been an ordeal, especially when based in Luxembourg and nearly all your flights go through Germany. ...

Re: Belgian Defence to replace its A330 by an A321
no fighter force needed? Bullshit ... If you want to have a little bit of weight in international affairs, it won't be with A400Ms and NH90 you will achieve it .. Libia, Afghanistan, Yougoslavia anyone...? Scandinavian countries, which you cannot call "war-lovers" also keep a defense force...

Re: Return tickets for One way flights
as an occassional leasure flyer, you have no risk booking return and onbly using the first leg, I did it as well a couple of occassions and the savings are often big. On corporate level the story is different. I fly LUX-AMS-LUX at least 3 times a month (by car during the week it is an exercise that ...

Re: Netherlands closer to accept JSF
the F35 is not just a weapon system on itself, it is part of a larger weapon network, being the US one, where you can "plug in". This applies to other systems as well. The Dutch military networks and weapon systems (Patriot, Apache, Chinook, their Navy vessels) are all "US compatible&...

Interesting what it will mean to the BAF: this week the news that the B61 nukes will be upgraded .. I assume not to be hung under an antiquated F16A/MLU .... The Dutch buy 37 .. originally 85 foreseen ... Sub-leasing of F35 to BAF ...? Anyway, the Belgian governement, if they want to remain some typ...

Re: Flying Turkish Airlines from Brussels to Africa in Busin
I used to love them, but they have indeed become very inconsistent in their service and their prices have risen considerably as well. Additionally, IST is just becoming a hell of an airport, also becoming very tricky when having tight connections. For my Central Asian trips, I'd shifted to Ukraine I...
