Re: Brussels Airlines in 2024

Why doesn't SN get a similar treatment as LH? What treatment are you talking about? LH is there to make money, it's all about business, not about treatments. They're smart enough to know what's good or bad for SN. Lumumba with his turbuprops, JOVAN2 with his network to all over Asia & the US, y...

Re: ASL Airlines Belgium & ASL Aviation Holdings news 2024

They changed a lot, like in... renewing its fleet? Like in ... re-registering all aircraft from OO- to OE- (except the old 737-400 OO-TNN and OO-TNP, the bare minimum to keep "Belgium" in their name). That is nothing new and has absolutely no relation at all with shareholders or whatsoever.

Thanks for the update and future monitoring.

It seems that ASL has changed a lot since its Belgian majority shareholder CMB sold its shares.

Re: Brussels Airlines' fleet renewal

Somehow and anyway in some time the long haul fleet has to be replaced. On a certain moment there will be no A330 anymore to be transferred within the group. The same for the A319 and A320 who starts to be old. But still there is a lot available within the group. But like I wrote months ago, why SN...

Re: Belgian Air Force news

This time, the PM flew to Israel with a private Lithuanian B737  Are we a third-world country? About time for Belgium to buy a decent government (medium-long range) aircraft! All countries have them... That KlasJet B737 is a regular visitor in Melsbroek... What a shame, indeed. On top of hiri...

Re: Brussels Airlines' fleet renewal

I understand but is it not high time to change the very pessimistic Belgian mindset? We can see here a lot of complaining, but when the CEO finally is willing to fight for new planes bcs the company is doing better, it's again not good. Decide what you want. Still flying second hand or having final...

Re: Brussels Airlines in 2024

After learning this news, Aviation24.be had a conversation with a Brussels Airlines spokesperson: in the last 6 months, 20 pilots left the company. In the same period, 40 new pilots were hired and some are to be accepted in the near future. 20 in six months is quite a number. How many in the past 2...

Re: Brussels Airlines in 2024

Can/do they offer training bonds? TUI had to let the bond go for new contracts, new joiners wouldn't even come if they had a bond. They all come for a free type rating and go away as soon as they find anything else. SN offers fixed contracts to F/O's so they have less troubles finding new F/O's. Ho...

Re: Brussels Airlines in 2024

It's how the market works: these days companies don't have to choose much, it's a different story then 25 years ago. It''s a real crisis at this moment. Belgian pilots, mostly copilots, are leaving for other skies (major airlines, in the Middle East,...). Hiring new guys is difficult. Especially at...

I had to look it up to find out that the ASTR aircraft code refers to a Gulfstream G100. Strange association!

And in this particular case, it's a Tyrol Air ambulance aircraft. Ski accident repatriation?
ASTR = Astra, which is the original manufacturer of this plane.

I understand the W-pattern Crew1990 explains, but they'll need a crew to do the BRU-BOS leg and afterwards again a crew doing BOS-BRU. Quite a costly operation, no?
Costly but still cheaper than opening a crew base in BRU for such a small fleet operating out of BRU.

Re: Brussels Airlines in 2024

Turboprops make very less noise than jets!!!! And no they need to use turboprops for those routes in my opinion because they are much less expensive and also carry less passengers these are good options for those tiny routes. That's also incorrect. Unless you compare a Q400 with a 747-200, you are ...

I have to agree here that a few turboprops, much cheaper to operate than big jets Not really. That's what lots of people who don't know what they are talking about think, but it's mostly incorrect. The message was posted after the return to Brussels and before the second departure.
So yes, this message explains the delay for the new departure.
Not anything close to the reason why they returned.

Confirms my point; no ambition, happy to be an underdog. How sad for our national airline. Let us give everything to our competitors.. You'll probably never accept the fact that Brussels Airlines is based in Belgium. A tiny small country surrounded by major hubs, such as LHR/AMS/CDG/FRA. Should SN ...

United Airlines flight UA973 from Brussels to Chicago O'Hare (Boeing 787-10 reg. N16008) made a U-turn just after passing over London and returned to Brussels " because we need additional time to assist customers on this flight " (says United). Strange justification: did someone forget hi...
