War in Iraq has serious consequences for aviation industry

Whilst German airline Lufthansa expects passenger numbers to fall by a fifth this year in the event of a war in Iraq, Australian airline Quantas is seriously thinking about cutting approximately 2.500 jobs (7.5% of the workforce) on the eventual outbreak of the war in Iraq.

Rumours are in the market that South African Airways is considering buying more Airbus aircraft, including four A380 planes. The A380s would replace its current eight Boeing 747s. Last year, SAA ordered 41 aircraft.
