Another type of incident: Delta Express flight from Orlando to JFK and we were told that there was a passenger onboard who had an extreme allergy against nuts. The consequence was that no-one got anything to eat on that flight, since nut-based snacks was all they had on board...

This probably doesn't count as 'inflight', but I had an Air France flight Osaka-Paris that eventually was to be 8 hours late. In Osaka from the lounge you could see the plane and its surroundings very well, and it started to feel worrisome when they took off one of the engines and started looking in ...

Once, my SAS flight Stockholm-Amsterdam returned to Stockholm because (we were told) the hydraulics systems had failed. The captain's claim was that it only made the steering more effort. Later, we figured out that SAS wanted to repair it at an SAS base (understandable, although irritating if they ...

I had no problems with having my baggage checked through all the way. So even with two different groups you can sometimes have baggage through checked

Exactly! I've had good experiences with all kinds of transfers: different tickets, and even different groupings, like bigjulie, and it ...

The bomb and parachute reminds me of the movie "Drop Zone". Some crazy people blow the door out and escape by parachute. That combination can cause a lot of harm indeed. :?

There are quite a few Hollywood films where people are opening B747 doors, blowing holes in airplanes, stand near holes ...

What is the role of the EU in new open skies deals between the EU and other countries? I thought the EU had won the privilege on open skies treaties, or was that only for the deal(s) with the US?

The Hainan Airlines home page (http://www.hnair.com/en/) mentions a Budapest flight opening on 2 August. MALEV has been asked to help train the Hainan personnel.

Could Budapest be a competitor for Brussels?

It may be a stupid question, but if there is a close link with OneWorld, how would that work with a possibile ANA (Star Alliance) co-operation?

Re: First A330 for KLM

About KLM having a Boeing fleet etc, I remember when I did my OPS course to handle KLM flights, our instructor told us KLM had used Airbus a/c in the past. They're not very popular with the company and that's why they stopped buying Airbus.

I can confirm that KLM used to have Airbus aircraft, as ...

None of my Spanish colleagues likes Iberia (though some will defend it when it's compared poorly with other airlines :) ), and one of them always takes the LANChile flight from Frankfurt to Spain! I can't judge, as I've never tried them!

I also don't think I want to have even longer flights, although I don't mind flying. It may be different in first class, but in economy (even economy extra/plus/premium), 12 hours is more than long enough for me. The comfort level needs to be much higher for longer flights to be enjoyable... Anyway ...

a short transatlantic crossing allows them to bring their flight crews up to speed (pun intended) quicker - more takeoffs and landings, more bang for the buck (or euro)

From that perspective, Los Angeles wouldn't qualify, but from passenger numbers (on AF) I'd say LA is definitely a candidate ...

I've found that there may be a difference in experience on the same airline between long-distance flights and European flights:

Long-distance flights
Good experience: KLM, Air France, SAS
Bad experience: BA, Lufthansa

European flights
Good experience: Lufthansa
Bad experience: Alitalia, SAS
