regarding the commercial demand of such a plane: there is also the interest in starting the An-124 production again. I do not know, what the break even in terms of sold frames is. I think only the guys at Boeing will know. But considering it's loading characteristics - providing the integrated ramp ...

Japan aviation industry has been involved in Boeing projects more than involved in similar projects by Airbus. I think two or three companies from Japan are also risk-sharing partners in the 787 project. I am not aware of similar first tier partnerships with Airbus. I think this is (just) one reason...

I think Laker did some London-New York flights as well and was also known for their "budget" prices. I flew on a Laker DC-10 once! :-D regarding the oasis incident: Have anyone read the conspiracy theory on a.net? there are some people arguing that the British might have asked the Russians...

regarding the pilot's cellphone: I have the impression that sometimes pilots even use their cell in cockpit. I have found today the pic of the day on airliners, check this out: http://www.airliners.net/open.file/1130045/L/ this is a cellphone in the middle of the lower edge, right? why would a pilot...

Where then can we get the real story..Is this not what a forum is all about.. Why each times these "lectures" from the Airbus crowd.. I for one don't care whether B or A is the best...B&A need each other for a healthy competition..as long as they build SAFE and reliable planes.. 8) su...

this thread is another sad example of how rumors are transformed into suggestions. The articles says that "insiders guess a number of 1000". 1000 engineers is not officially confirmed. Read on: 1. forbes-online article says "estimation" 2. spiegel-online says "insiders guess...

you might want to check this page http://www.airlinecodes.co.uk/boeing.asp for a reference on Boeing customer codes. But ... Airbus assigns these numbers by a different scheme. I think engine manufacturer is one digit and the other I do not know. (for ex. 380-841 for the RR and 380-361 for the GeNX ...

I think it has been said in another thread that the 747 encountered more problems during development as opposed to the A380, but you can't really compare them because back then we do not have so powerful computer simulations.... but it is just so normal for problems to be discovered on the A380 dur...

I do not know for sure, but I wondered: did the Boeing 747 programme have also a delay in 1969/1970? I think it was a delay of nine months for the first planes to Pan Am? Another big bird is the Galaxy. I remember faintly of having read that the Lockheed Galaxy C-5 have some serious trouble to meet ...

two things to add: 1. the good thing of the TXL-JFK flight is that you get the earphones for free (quite fair ones). Thus you do not need to purchase them on the national flight JFK-SFO!!! :D 2. That one is really bad: I like to check in early in order to avoid long queues, do some shopping or just ...

this is a machine translation from CXrules. Thus, the figure title sounds odd and some unknown terms are left German. I think in its main message its OK. The important sentence "As sequence" of the weakness stepped in the test flights to light, so the documents, beginning of March fell the...

However, I wondered about the risk that one of the very new aircrafts will have problems (I really hope not): wouldn't it be better for an airline from risk-aware point of view to share the capacity with two aircraft types in case problems occurrs with one of them? No. If an aircraft out performs a...

Delta: TXL-JFK-SFO and back: some notes

Just to let you know my opinion on my first delta experience. About my background: I live in Berlin. Thus, for a flight to California I must take a connection. I am not an airline professional but let me ask something: obviously it was quite surprising that SIA chooses the A350, because they have ordered the B787 already. Thus, as many suggest, the commonality effects are lower to save costs. However, I wondered about the risk that one of the very new airc...

well, the link posted by bits44 (playfuls?) actually cites "Der Spiegel", a German weekly. The online version of this posting can be accessed here http://www.spiegel.de/spiegel/0,1518,428045,00.html it basically says "not only problems with wiring" but also "problems occurre...
