Belgocontrol hired many new guys in the spring of 2007. They should have finished their on-the-job training phase by now. And as someone posted, a letter from the union to the ministry will do more than a strike.
Correct, they all finished their OJT and are now qualified assistent controllers. At ...

Re: Belgian ATC staff considering industrial action
Atco's should try to complain to the authorities if the problem is understaffing
It's the authorities that made the decisions that led to the understaffing. As it is a public company, e.g.: the stop on hiring public servants some time ago meant that there were no new controllers hired for several ...

The aerodrome FD can count on the support of local, non-aviation colleagues (Vilvoorde and Zaventem if i remember correctly). From a certain level of alert, those fire departments come to the airport. The problem with giving the standby to the local fire departments is that their training is not the ...

Security at BRU is done by several different players.
There is BAC Airport Inspection/security that is responsible for access control and the security points for passengers and cargo (Group 4 is the private company that works for them). Then there is the 'real' Airport Inspection which is about the ...

I don't want to start a discussion about striking, announced or unannounced. I just know that the situation is a lot more complicated than we can asses from outside of the company. We have no idea how the people of the fire department and airport safety are treated by their management.

I suppose that BRU remains open at a lower fire category. Pilots and airlines can use the infrastructure but the emergency services available are less or nonexistent. Using the airport under these circumstances is something most airlines won't do.

I don't think BA is right here. I'm not going to comment on the fact that a person showing everyone what they believe in is right or wrong but one rule should apply to all employees. What religion we are talking about doesn't really matter. Either the airline has a policy not to show any religious ...

So the flightcrew did not realise they were talking to the Belgians?
I don't know. And even if they did, at first they would have expected to be talking to Brussels Control because they were lower than they usually were. But if they did realize it, they should have picked up on the fact that they ...

Some information about the NWA flight that landed at EBBR instead of EDDF.
Normally those Transatlantic inbounds to EDDF stay above FL245. This one came into Belgocontrol (then still RLW/RVA by the way) controlled airspace. The belgian controllers got a 'no-details' estimate for KOK from the english ...

24/03 : BAW 777-200
Between 1500 and 1530 today a BAW 777-200 left EBBR for YMML. Anyone know why the plane was at EBBR?
