Air Asturias *** TO CEASE OPERATIONS ***

Only about two months after its inaugural flight to Paris, Air Asturias has announced that it is to cease its activities on 26th January 2007.

Air Asturias : Brussels-Asturias

Asturias-Brussels now appear to be bookable on the Air Asturias website.

It appears that flights commence Friday 2nd March 2007 and there will be flights twice a week, on Fridays and Mondays.

For example a weekend in Asturias on the inaugural flight for you Brussels folk...

Have Spanish aviation authorities been doing their job?

According to the Spanish press, one reason why Air Madrid suffered frequent delays was that their published flight times were different from their actual take-off slot times. So flights were more attractive and easier to sell, but a delay was inevitable.

Air Asturias - Update

Well, the latest according to press reports is that Air Asturias will start putting tickets on sale this month (September 2006) for flights commencing October 2006.

Initial routes from Asturias Airport (OVD) will be:

- Rome
- Milan
- Lisbon

The frequency to each of these destinations will be four ...

I don't think Air Asturias has it's office set up yet, although they have announced that it will be in the town of Aviles, which is next door to Asturias Airport (they have also announced that they are planning to build a 4 star hotel there as well).
