Problems with the GE9X engine, multiple overhauls on the design and having a 10:1 bypass ratio in an engine that size is, simply put, crazy.
the original idea of making the fan blades out of carbon fiber was a mistake. But anyway. they went away from that idea :roll:

I remember the pair of DC-10's overflying Schaerbeek in the evening 30 years ago, they were flying to East Africa, arriving there after sunrise, and returning to Europe during the day. You could say you loose a day's business on the way back, but it's exactly the same nowadays on the way going ...

Johannesburg is attractive on paper, but ultra-long haul with high competition from Gulf carriers makes it very hard to profit.

Due to the delay introducing the 12th A330, there is an alternative growth plan rumoured:

2026:
-Washington will not return, A/C can be used for growth on the existing destinations (and thus continuing expansion as planned)
-United increasing frequency from Washington, possibly even double ...
