Re: Boeing 737 (MAX) news
A Boeing engineer who last year lodged an internal ethics complaint alleging serious shortcomings in development of the 737 MAX has written to a U.S. Senate committee asserting that systemic problems with the jet’s design “must be fixed before the 737 MAX is allowed to return to service.” https://ww...

Re: Airline bankruptcies, ceased operations, restructurations
Could I suggest a dedicated thread about airlines seeking bailouts ? Excerpt from previous link https://www.theguardian.com/business/2020/apr/27/norwegian-air-says-most-of-fleet-will-stay-grounded-until-2021-due-to-coronavirus 'Virgin Atlantic Sir Richard Branson’s Virgin Group says it is not lookin...

Re: Airbus A330/A330neo news
Thankyou for your precision. I wonder if KU, the launch customer, will take delivery of the first batch as planned (Q3 2020). Given the dire context, I expect a minima a delay (a maxima a cancellation ?). Lets cross fingers. I expect the -800 fully meets specs (or maybe exceeds them ?) regarding fue...

Re: Airline bankruptcies, ceased operations, restructurations
'At the beginning of a critical fortnight for the airline, Norwegian laid out the scale of the task ahead – and the hit it expects bondholders, aircraft lessors and shareholders to take in order for the airline to access a 3bn kroner (£230m) state bailout. Even that may not be enough, it warned, in ...

Re: Ethiopian Airlines Expansion.
ET have indeed big ambitions regarding the African market as a whole. They invest in every corner of Africa, creating multiple subsidiary airlines, having a finger in every pie, they are becoming ubiquitous on the continent. In the grand scheme of things they will emerge as the only African carrier ...

So LH lost their lawsuit, a very good thing too !
And this judgment should hopefully settle the matter ?

Re: Ethiopian Airlines Expansion.
I think it's long overdue. I was expecting the ATH service to resume much earlier.
ATH used to be a key destination in ET's network several decades ago.
There is trafic to east and south Africa to grab via ADD.

Re: Boeing 737 (MAX) news
This article from the tdg reports the NTSB conclusions not pointing to a lack of airmanship in the two crashes. They just stress the point that the pilot's responses to the emergency situation was not the one expected by the engineers at conception time. And they recommend a more effective analysis ...

The NYT pointing to lack of airmanship skills of the crew involved prepares the opinion in the forthcoming battle for compensations that might end up in courts.

Re: Lufthansa in 2019
@Poiu OFF topic . As an aside about MK, here is an overview of the airline's results over the 12 previous years. Not contesting they are struggling but certainly not an economic basket case either. 2016, 2017, 2018 were good years for them. 2019 is bad. But they proved they are capable to survive in...

Re: Lufthansa in 2019
I am not sure they want to close the airline. Air Namibia is a tool to promote the country abroad and attract tourists. If it can run profitably (like Air Mauritius do) its' a double win. However they can afford some losses provide these are compensated by the tourists influx. The economy needs them...

Three global carriers in Europe: BA (or the IAG-group), AF-KLM and LH-group? + 3 LCC: Ryanair, Easyjet and Wizzair... All the rest is will be niche players... Stij Maybe .. On the other hand you have a potential 4th global player which might result from the consolidation of the following Airlines u...

Re: The change of the worldwide aviation landscape
it would be stupid to cancel BRU-CDG. However I agree BRU-AMS might be an expensive luxury. That is quite contradictory isn’t it? Would you be so kind to explain yourself? It's very simple, bru-ams which is (was) served by kl exclusively opens up the connectivity to Brussels city. However since the...

Re: Social actions at air traffic control service skeyes (Belgium) - possible air traffic disruptions
Call the military in. President Reagan did that during his tenure when faced with ATC striking. It was effective. I don't know if it's feasable in B. But one thing is sure, the strike must end now.

Re: The change of the worldwide aviation landscape
I don't believe CDG-AMS flights will be cancelled soon. And it would be stupid to cancel BRU-CDG. Instead I plead since quite some time for a a second route BRU-ORY complementing BRU-CDG nicely. Same for LON, I believe there is room for LGW or LTN as well as LHR. Damn the greens. However I agree BRU...

Re: Lufthansa in 2019
Thank you to the crew of this site, plenty of figures and analysises to browse through. Except for LX, the other players of the group are heavily in the red, not a glorious Q1 this year worse than expected. However as the saying goes, no dark cloud can forever prevent the sun from shining, at least ...

Re: Airbus A330/A330neo news
I have a candid question regarding the A330-900 capability, maybe some knowledgeable member could help me with this question : Do you think the A339 (251t latest variant) can fly jnb-hkg non stop without a payload hit ? I would answer probably no and if so, what would you think the payload hit look ...

Re: Lufthansa in 2019
Lufthansa reports a poor Q1 result : -342 millions euros net loss against -39 millions previous year, nearly 10 times worse. LX on the other hand succeeds remaining North with 48,3 millions SF profit (a significant drop from last year though which were twice as much). I don't have the figures for OS...

Norwegian is leasing four aircraft from different operators for the Gatwick Airport summer season. According to Routes Online, this will consist of two Airbus A330s, an Airbus A340, and a Boeing 777: Firstly, an Airbus A330-200 will be leased from Wamos Air; Secondly, an Airbus A330-300 will be leas...
