That Virgin Group has money, is beyond any doubt.

I just wonder if they are still willing to invest it in VEX. This has not proven to be their best investment over the last years...

For the future of the SNBA-VEX group, the description you outline is a possibility. But I don't hear anything ...

Hey FlightSimCrew

Your previous post is indeed much closer to my own perception of the Virgin problems...

Untill now indeed lcc's have had the biggest relative advantage on relatively short haul sectors. (they exploit their efficiency much more on those routes, via short turn-around etc.).
Virgin ...

Dear FlightSimCrew,

I am of course aware of the facts you mentioned. I am also aware of the differences in personal and company taxes btwn Gr. Br. and Belgium, the higher fees in BRU compared to the average EZY hubs, the slower turnarounds in BRU etc. etc. etc. Facts that give VEX also some ...

Interesting thread...

Do you remember that Virgin is always complaining about unfair competition etc. That they cannot be profitable because of the dumping of former SN and actual SNBA (both supposedly helped by governement, politics, BIAC and all kind of other invisible forces...).

I don't know ...

Thomas Cook Belgium is profitable
Thomas Cook Airlines Belgium is profitable (with small margin, but that is probably artificial since the money goes to TCB)

Thomas Cook AG loses 250 milj. EUR a year due to:
Big amortisation on goodwill etc after different take overs the last years.

Future outlook ...

The odds of existing carriers turning into succesfull lowcosters are not soo good. TC has some history, and a lot of size, making this conversion not very easy. I remain a bit sceptical for now ...

Hello Frederic,

This tread starts to get a bit delicate, but here is the reason for the statement:

We live in a very little country, that is yet extremely complex (f.i. 3 different languages and thus a lot of governements, each with their priorities, etc.). This complexity has led to a very ...

Purely theoretical:

LCC lower the average fares at a certain airport. Lower prices attract more customers. (Historically this effect has been very pronounced on some routes.)

Average lower fares, thus means more passengers (on average) and means more jobs on average....

Hence bancrupcies usually ...

According to http://www.easyjet.com/en/jobs/pilotrecruitment_ourcurrentrequirments.html it would indeed appear strange not to take flying hours on Avro/146 into account. They have equivalents for turboprop, prop, airline, multicrew, etc...

It is however likely that with the present expansion, they ...

Airport charges are determined by the airport... and as any product on the free market they are susceptible to negotiations.

Unless other factors play (politics etc.) the only way BRU could increase its volume is by lowering prices. To determine which strategy would generate most profits, one would ...

1. They can refuse them, by keeping prices high. But what's the use of chasing customers away? Unless BIAC has other objectives then profitability (political, environmental, ethical, ...), but even this will get more difficult, since they will be privatised in the medium run ...

2. BRU would indeed ...

This situation reminds me of the Sabena times... Salaries were higher, but the lack of respect looks strangely familiar...

Good luck with it guys!
