Why not move these forward in the production slots if they don't have any problems?

I can't help but think this is a short-sighted move by Aer Lingus. I know people who have chosen to fly with them in recent months to avoid the hassle (never mind the cost) of Ryanair's baggage charge.

I also wonder how it will affect code share arrangements with BA and KLM.

Ryanair used to do this (may still do, it's been a while since I flew with them). The bags, assuming they hadn't been used, could be used to contain photographic film. So, holiday makers were able to put their snaps in for processing at the end of the flight.

I don't think it's just a question of fit. There are considerable overheads in being a member of an alliance. Realistically, an airline needs to ask itself whether the extra revenue can justify the expenditure. This is especially true for smaller alliance members who are really only used as feeders ...
