Re: Brussels Airlines' fleet renewal

From 2011 to 2014 the local management managed to reduce debts from -80mil (in the year 2011) to -4mil (in the year 2014). 2015 and and 2016 were both positive, respectively 41mil and 15 mil. That is not correct, between 2012 and 2015 the cumulated loss was above 100 million euro and the debt went ...

Re: Brussels Airlines' fleet renewal

I think that it's always good to recall history facts and not emotions based. After the collapse of Sabena, SN was a restarting entity with the infrastructure of a regional airline - it had 32 AVRO/BAE's, 4XA319 and 4xA332. 4 years later it merged with Virgin Express, a small (10 aircraft) LCC. You ...

Re: Brussels Airlines' fleet renewal

SN is a local brand and hssvto integrate into the big picture. This comes always at the cost that the design is different vs a fully independent company. The outlook is nothing special, just enforcing the alignment into the fleet and product strategy. - as a small brand, there is money to be earned ...

Re: Brussels Airlines' fleet renewal

Who is flying may be an issue for employees seeking a trip to the US. In a JV where both partners share cost and profits it's equal. And it's a fair share - UA and AC are bringing additional TATL planes in the game, SN is bringing more in Africa. Of course, not everything that has a business rationa...

Re: Brussels Airlines' fleet renewal

One major point was that BRU has noise cap as from 2031/32, thus the number of flights can't be rather increased after a certain level, thus the only solution would be larger aircraft. So likely in the overall picture there may be additional factors putting the 330 NEO outside or at least at the edg...

Re: Brussels Airlines' fleet renewal

An interview with the CEO (in German) but pretty straight forward strategic choices on fleet. And addiitonal insights to phantasies circulating here about the A321XLR and it "lost opportunity" for armchair CEO's. https://www.aerotelegraph.com/ Key messages: - new A320NEO's to join the flee...

Re: Brussels Airlines' fleet renewal

Easyjet is a LCC without any focus on cargo business. I would assume that SN is counting on some belly cargo revenue, which won't be part of the economics in any 321LR. Not surprisingly, LH is seeing the 321LR and XLR rather as a part of Eurowings and the current 40 A320family options may be part of...

Re: Brussels Airlines' fleet renewal

If you want huge Hubs with African destinations, MUC would be ready. No big deal to paint the A330 in Discover branding, cabin product is the same and you'll have other 30 planes connecting you to the US. BRU is by no means a center of the airline Industry. SN has for the time being a guaranteed nic...

Re: Brussels Airlines' fleet renewal

Right. AF-KLM Group - approx 580 aircraft , there of approx 180 long haul Lufthansa Group - approx 720 aircraft, there of approx 200 long haul So yeah, AF- KLM is bigger. You should be consistent in your bashing. Either you look towards Easyjet -> than you should realize that integrating SN into Euro...

Re: Brussels Airlines' fleet renewal

But the majority is not at the standard of aviationn geeks.

And 90% of the perception is rather driven by cabin design. On long haul it makes a difference, but on the typical European short haul route rather not.

Most of them especially in the leisure part do not even know with whom they are flying.

Re: Brussels Airlines in 2024

Reliance on wet leases as a strategy concerns me not a little. This is not a strategy shared by the other (so-called) full-service carriers Brussels wants to compete with, and for a reason: pretty hard to maintain consistent hard/soft product standards. If wet leases are not strategically deployed,...

Re: Brussels Airlines' fleet renewal

It is fully understandable that people are curious . Just that this business is a little bit more complicated than a marketing speech. Delta is a profitability king by deliberately choosing to run a mix of new and older aircraft ( the 717 are a classic example of getting a right fit subfleet at low ...

Re: Brussels Airlines' fleet renewal

Who says this? It is a first allocation from group deliveries. There is more to come with the phase out of the 319. Tell us when approximately please. 2030 ? In the meantime the airline does not make the profits it could make if it had less fuel consuming aircraft. Do you have in real life any job ...

Re: Brussels Airlines' fleet renewal

Sure, it is.

But nevertheless, as IAG has a minority stake they are presenting their brand startegy at the capital market days. You can check the presentation on the IAG website, it is public information.

Re: Brussels Airlines' fleet renewal

IAG is comunicating clearly their brand positions

Full service- BA, Iberia

Value - Air Europa, Aer Lingus

Low cost - Vueling, Level

Obviously the LH Group would be more or less similar

Full Service - Swiss, LH

Value - Austrian, Brussels, Edelweiss, Discover

Low Cost - Eurowings

Re: Brussels Airlines' fleet renewal

Not really. Typically not dedicated fleet is allocated 2 years in advance - so as an educated guess there would be a decision for 2026/27 max. As approx 3/year are already planned for Swiss and Austrian shall become replacement for it's own six A321, if staying with Airbus. So around 5-7 deliveries...
