Re: Brussels Airlines' fleet renewal

Let's try to aggregate some data without any emotions.

Brussels' financial performance is very weak. The company is in fact at black zero profitability and only some sales and lease back wins are ensuring tiny profits ( one can read this in the annual report).

Given these figures, all investments ...

Re: Brussels Airlines' fleet renewal

Normal pattern, as typically 1 day before the annual general meeting there is a supervisory board meeting and this is the format where such investments need to get aproved.

Re: BRU Summer 2026: news, new routes, airlines

Just a quick reminder. This week, LOT will start with the new destination, Gdansk, as from 29th April. 4x a week with the B737Max.

A beautiful destination. Lots of culture, amazing area (Gdansk, Sopot, Gdynia) the Baltic Sea and delicious food.

Re: Brussels Airlines in 2026

@timtam

Just the insiders would know exactly where the hardest spots to work on are. The industry itself has as any industry certain benchmarks and it can be identified where in an activity a company is above or below.

As in any business, each coin has two sides and it can improve some parameters ...

Re: Brussels Airlines in 2026

The 321LR ITA has were leased with the intention to offer a premium cabin product towards Middle East routes -Saudi Arabia, Emirates, Oman etc. Thee markets were not working well, so the fleet had to be used on additional legs with some premium demand eg Tel Aviv ( also problematic now) and by not ...

Re: Brussels Airlines in 2026

Strange that nobody has an explanation. I will try I wild guess to attract answers : bad (LH) management (overall).

What about simple economics?

Brussels delivered in 2025 an EBIT of 1,7% from sales. Cost discipline would have been key regardless of any other evolution.

Several airlines are ...

Re: Brussels Airlines' fleet renewal

On a slightly different note : would it not be better for SN to stick to an all AIrbus fleet ?

It is a faair question, as airlines operating 320 /339 or 320/359 often have common pilots pools.
But.. this would be something workable there were you have a small airline and try to keep things ...

Re: Brussels Airlines' fleet renewal

Sorry but personal bad luck in choosing own real estate is not a criteria for an airline to judge the best fit model to fly.

There were some rumours that LH would order soon some additional planes, likely widebodies, and depending on which manufacturer and model would get new orders we may see a ...

Re: Brussels Airlines' fleet renewal

up to now the choices were 359 or 789 and the 338 mentioned again deliberately that it was delibertately not choosed for the group and just an m&a consequence

Re: Brussels Airlines' fleet renewal

Why do you mean that there is no strategy?

- growing the fleet in average by 1 widebody per year
- around 2030 introduction of the next generation widebody
- update of the hard product toa group mainstream cabin model, start by replacing the oldest design and leave free room (not upgrading) to roll ...

Re: Brussels Airlines' fleet renewal

Well, no suprise here.

Out of the 23 CRJ the half was not flying anymore, Cityline was anyhow planned to close 2027 and the CRJs to exit the fleet by end of the year. The strike just closed them 7-8 months earlier, in a context where other airlines are also reducing flights.

With respect to the ...

Re: Brussels Airlines' fleet renewal

Indeed, this is a new contingent coming to the market.
Was thinking spntaeously about the ex Play A320 and A321, having as well matching engines.

Would be good to see a courageous move and an accelerated roll over from 319 towards all 320.

Re: Brussels Airlines' fleet renewal

One question from my side. There are 5 A320NEO targeted for delivery next year.
Any idea how many 319 would be replaced?
According to the pattern of growing the narrowbody fleet by 1-2 per year, it should be 3 or 4.

Brussels will also be getting pre-owned 320neo this year.

Why is is that SN keeps being the 'worst' airline within the LH Group?

Is it incompetence? Lack of money? What is is?

Re: Lufthansa in 2026

This is a little bit out of context.

The Lufthansa Group is making two scenarios, to reduce the offer by 2,5% (20 planes) or up to 5% (40 planes).

If one is calculating the whole group with 800+ planes, than the numbers match. So we are not talking about Lufthansa mainline, only.

The rest is pure ...

Re: Brussels Airlines' fleet renewal

Just some interesting news coming from ITA.

- they want to expand and want/need additional A350s to be procured via Lufthansa
- they are unhappy with the 321LR and these would into storage and the engines would be used short term for other 320NEOs
- the reasons they are unhappy are mainly that ...

Re: Brussels Airlines' fleet renewal

Let's try to stick to facts and not towards personal likes or dislikes.

Lufthansa' s core strategy is to simply its fleet and has chosen 1 type of aircraft by each size they want to operate in the future. These models are B789-A359-A351-B779.

The company stated already public at the Capital ...

Re: Brussels Airlines' fleet renewal

Wasn't the A350 already (un)officially elected as the successor for the A330's a while ago by SN?

How realistic is the 787 ?

Officially there is a choice to be made between both.
And there are good reasons for each type, the question is rather what is the preference at group level ...
