A lot of completely non military or aviation related activities are being held at EBSU. e.g motorbike/car races, scouts camps, nature promoting organisations etc... Very strange indeed. The place must be very quiet causing an important local game population.

My feeling was confirmed the captain being a glider-instructor. It confirms the importance gliding experience is able to contribute to overall airmanship. Gliders flying in the Ardens are limited to a maximum altitude of 4500 ft QNH, except during the WE.
It's hard to beleive but the only place where you meet military traffic is ... yes exactly in that tiny layer !!
